Re: good deal or no?

I also went to the school cooperation and tried to talk to someone about seeing the buses and the lady said that they are working on a skeleton crew right now because a lot of people got called up to serve. And she said that I would have to set up an appointment with the big cheese which she said is hard to get time with…

Re: good deal or no?

For comparison I bought a 91 TC2000 (sounds like what these are) 4 years ago with 158K miles for $1850. Now these bus's are 4 years older (17 years old now, mine was 13 years old when I bought it) and they want 1,000 more than I paid. Based on that I wouldn't say they're a great deal. If it's the "perfect bus" it may be worth the extra money.

How are the tires? A new set can be $2000+
What gear ratio does it have? I have a 4.33 gears and average 10mpg if I drive it right. A bus that gets 6 mpg has to be refueled almost twice as often - thus costing 2x the fuel. Very important on a long trip, you could save hundreds of dollars in fuel with a bus that gets better fuel mileage.

Thats cool they will give you your deposit back if you don't buy the bus. I say have them hold it for ya, and keep looking for "your bus" if a better deal comes along get it, if not consider one of those buses.

Re: good deal or no?

yes i would love to find one at that price, but i've looked and looked and looked here for a while now and i just can't seem to find anything at a reasonable price and location... i just can't find it practical to drive it home across the coutry, this one is at an ok price and less than 20 miles away. another thing is getting it home i don't have a cdl and so i can't drive it until it is "skoolied", my friend who has a class A will be bringing it home until i can get it stripped and have a state trooper come out and check it out.. this just seems to be the most practicle right now, and i still think its a huge bonus coming directly from a school. i don't know tho you guys probably know 100 times more than i do

Keep looking... there's good deals out there, even close to home. You're right though a long trip can get expensive real quick, especially with diesel at 3.70/gallon. Might be a good idea to put down the $100 and have them hold it but keep looking for a great deal. If you find one get your $100 bucks back.

Where do you live? Maybe someone nearby knows a good source of buses.

I got my straight from the school district also... well from the bus dealer that took it on trade. I was able to talk to the bus mechanics before I picked out my bus. As soon as the dealer got the bus on they're lot I picked it up a few hours later. I had a great experience, and I'd recommend anyone looking for a bus to check with their local bus dealer and ask if they have any coming in on trade.

Re: good deal or no?

Shoot...that first one is a steal. Offer them $1000...take out the 454 and sell it on Craigslist for $500. Sell the AT545 for $400 (and it would sell fast at that price). Sell the tires and wheels for $200. Scrap the rest of the bus for $900 (that's 10 tons at $90 per ton). Sit back and enjoy your $800 worth of beverage money. Of course that's a sad end for a bus and I can't condone those actions...
