If only I could teach her to shake off the dust outside the bus we might actually get some real work out of her. Wishful thinking I know.

Re: Great White Buffalo - 92 BB All American RE

My plan is to ship it to arizona to have the conversion done...

Seroiusly though,
I have to decide if the 5.9RE in the 98 with the double overdrive allison is a better set up than the 8.3 with direct drive allison. maybe figure out how to do a little swapperoo and put the 6 speed auto with the 8.3 and have power AND road speed. I have big stuff to tow, but wouldnt always be towing and would love a bit of fuel economy.

All of that to say- I have to decide on the mechanical scenario I want to go with before I begin the conversion. All have the underbody storage- I really like how you utilized yours, and would most certainly hope to borrow some of your ideas...

Great work!

Bring it on out John, I'll help ya bang out the conversion.

Tough choice you have there with the running gear. Ofcourse mating the best of both would be ideal but it sounds like a fair amount of work. I'm assuming the 8.3 has the 643 trans? Do both buses have steep rear end gears?

With my setup if I could get another gear or two that would be ideal. Past that I'm fine at traveling around 55mph so it's not a huge deal.

Feel free to borrow any ideas you see. I'm just making it up as I go.

Re: Great White Buffalo - 92 BB All American RE

The bus like yours has the 4.78 gears + 643 direct drive trans... the 5.9's have 5.38's and the allison 3060 trans (6 speed, Double overdrive) the final ratio on those calculates to 3.49:1. There is a chance- since I havent driven them yet, that they are speed governed through the electronics. HOPE NOT!

Maybe the first step is to put a hitch on the 5.9 and drag 8K up the mountain on a trailer...

That could be an adventure...

More motor less gears vs less motor more gears.... it might actually be a tie in the end.

I think you're on the right track with just pulling your trailer around.... that should help make up your mind.

I have to crystal ball my way into my future use. I tend to overthink my way around issues.

Too bad a school bus pulling a crew cab on a car trailer screams "pull me over!"

anyway, I think I have done enough to Hijack Ryans build- Back to the really cool stuff that he is actually accomplishing...

A few more pictures....

Playing around with some exterior colors.

Little tile planning

How about a little color on the "aft stateroom" wall?

Finishing up the 110v and propane are next on the list. Should have the bus ready for "camp mode" here real soon.
