Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
It's been a long time since I've updated this post>>> The floor is covered with herculiner truck bed covering, floor plates/tie down points are recessed into subfloor to install/remove motorcycle wheel chocks, and interior walls are insulated/covered. Believe it or not, I can fit five dirt bikes and one quad - from the wheel wells to the rear doors!

Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
Saturday and Sunday were spent painting the exterior FINALLY. Time off and perfect weather - that doesn't happen very often... I still need to refinish the front/rear bumpers and wheels, and I'm not quite sure on the sides - I may want to add a bit more red. It's more gray than I thought!

Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
LuLu - thanks, that was my first outdoor paint job on something too big to fit under cover - no small task! As for the double doors, I first cut the new (smaller) door out, leaving the original jamb and latch side alone. For the hinge, I used angle iron on both sides to create a new jamb (bent to fit curvature of door), and to that tacked on a stainless steel piano hinge (added the screws later). The new door stays put with a barrel latch inside, and the original latch works as it did before. Today I am going to try to get the door locks done...

Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
Folks, give me your opinion - The more I look at it, the more I think it's too gray. This picture isn't great, but it gives you an idea of what I think I might do to fix that - what do you think? Appreciate the help...

I don't think theres to much grey. Maybe repaint the spot upfront grey is fading through. Get the family together and come up with a family symbol and put it up back there in back.

Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
Just to clarify, the last picture on page 2 of the thread was an idea (done poorly on Microsoft Paint). The bus currently still has only a single uniform stripe down the sides. I was thinking about making the stripe wider up front, to curve into the thinner stripe.

Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
yeah thats the one i was referring to. i dont think its too much gray...i will probably wind up with something similar except a light blue metallic instead of red and perhaps a slightly lighter shade of gray/silver...
the other layout isnt bad either...i think the scallop would look nice if it were re-oriented somehow
i really like the paint scheme on the santa fe trains...the silver and red with yellow accent....
i think i saw a bus painted like that on one of these forums...i really like that a lot.

Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
I also live in NJ & documented my Rutgers bus conversion. It's in my signature. Regarding your questions, I transported it with dealer plates and insured it as a motorhome. I told them on the title it said Chevy Bluebird Motorhome. It's a van body so perhaps I could've insured it as such. Then I went through all the requirements of making it a motorhome. Painting it, removing seats, stop sign and top warning lights. Building a bed, sink and installing a microwave (or stove). I took a picture of all that plus the vin number, got a certified weight slip from a truck weight station ,copied my drivers license and sent it to the Foreign Titles Dpt. in Trenton. I had to do that to change the bus title to motorhome. I sent it Friday so I'm hoping for a quick turn around.

Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
ah ok...
foreign titles sounds funny lol...only in nj would a bus from another state require you to go to "foreign titles"
i might run into a prob because i need it reg and insured while i work on it...the lot that is allowing me to do this requires it and i also want to be able to drive it to have certain work done on it...
pickle....
sorry for the highjack op..

Re: Haulin' Toyz - '85 GMC Skoolie in NJ
It's probably already registered as a bus. Just insure it as a motorhome. That's what I did as I worked on it.
