Rear engine buses will be harder to find higher gears for.
They use a revers cut ring gear that is only used on rear engine bus application.
Unlike front engine buses that use the same rear ends as every MDT 3 ton truck on the road.
Every rear engine bus I have seen has the 5.29 rear gears.

I have a 4.10 rear end in my 1989 BBAA. I guess it's gold. It's a 23,000 Rockwell. Maybe I will hang onto it for my retirement.

Called Thomas here in Houston. They told me it's not an issue. Gave them the V.I.N. and they ran it. They said 4.10s are easy to do. Apparently I have a 5.80-something, 82 or 84. The quote with a two year warranty was $1500 to $2K depending upon whatever else they need to do. However, they also said that price includes changing the speedometer gears and calibrating them, and checking the rear end for any wear and submitting repair requests before reassembly. If I feel rich I might take them up on it.

Knowing the transportation industry like I do I kinda figured there were options, you just have to look. The fact there is a Thomas dealer in Houston makes it a bit easier to find the parts I'm looking for. In addition, these guys also gave me the number and contact info for one of the Thomas parts managers in North Carolina. If anyone has a parts problem/issue, PM me and I'll set you up with the info.

Well, my Cat engine is a 225 hp beauty! Rear end is an Eaton Spicer with a 5.29 gear ratio. Called Spicer, they had to go back to their paper catalogs to find the axle! Nothing like paper to either confirm or deny a rumor....... 4.11s are no longer available due to age from Eaton , however, General Truck Parts in Chicago said they'd look.... Waiting for them to call back.......

Hey M1031A1, how can I find out what HP is my BB 3208T? BTW thanks for the info on using prolong, lucas fuel and Marvel Mystery oil I follow your recipe and it does make a difference, is not like when you wash your car and it seems to run better(in our minds,Lol) this really makes a big difference on engine temp.

J, look at the data plate. Mine from Thomas gives the engine and serial number of that engine. The guys at the shop said they replaced the engine with an exact hp replacement engine from Cat. So the data plate reads: 3208T225. The "T225" indicates it's the turbo 225 hp engine. No wonder it pulls so well and acts like it's begging for another gear!

I was just going by what I have seen installed stock in our buses for gearing.
My rear engine bus will do 70 just fine with the 5.34 gears.
4.10 rear gears would be sweet after I turn up the power 100 hp, but having 6th gear unlocked would do the same for me.
If I didn't have the 3060, the gears would be my only option.

Depending upon what I find out I may go to a semi scrap yard and size up an axle from a big rig and take it from there. Seen it done many times before and on this site a couple of times.
Right now I'm waiting for results from Chicago.......

Well, we have pushed forward and now have some cabinets for the kitchen and pantry. We're in the process of getting a stainless steel countertop and other goodies for Heavy.
Here are some pics.
This weekend the family will be working on the roof. Wifie and son will be helping me with the endeavors.
Plenty of pics this weekend to feed the masses!
We're also looking at a hydroponic system inside the bus for several reasons to be explained a bit later. Headed to bed now.

I will end up building my own, but have been on the look out for some nice garage type that I feel are strong enough.

Just won two more small cabinets this afternoon. Pics are coming this weekend! I have a circular saw for cutting up the old beat-up plywood floor and begin to rustproof the steel floor and prep it for spray foam. Lots going on this weekend! WoHOO!!!!!
