Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

Next phase: horrible lighting. After endless amount of research as well as talking to the #1 lighting man in the US, I am proceeding. Sealed beams suck, period, no questions asked. In this mountainous country where high beams are on 90% of the time, I needed to make a change. Biggest problem is cost. Having to balance between perfect lighting and having them taken out by wildlife. Bulbs arent the answer just part of the equation, lamps are the biggest part.

More to follow when start the project........

Here is where I am at now [top lights are gone]:

Meh...not quite.

Plenty of research on lights here: http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb/for ... Automotive

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

Ever think about using HD projector lights like they do on current buses and trucks?
I went HID and will never go back..
I did this to my 2000 Xterra using mini Morimoto projectors about four years ago. Used 6500K Bulbs bright white.
Here is a link showing a conversion:

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

Add flame tubes and cook the "harvest" on the way there. Talk about Alaskan take home!! maybe name the bus "Bus-B-Que" I might have to do the same thing here. The deer are so thick they run into stopped cars and trucks here.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

Nat, whaddya think for steel tubing for a bumper, nothing too heavy on the front end. Multiple 2" square tubing? The bumper itself is pretty stout. I need something more for above the bumper.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

I have the skills and the tools. My biggest questions was material size. I cant bend anything too big. Maybe 1.5" I could do double pipe if needed.

Just needed some ideas to kick around in my head.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

Hmmmm...could make it so the whole section slides into pockets welded to the bumper.

I'll add it to my list of projects....all which seem to be wrenching on vehicles lately.

Kinda along these lines. Red lines are pockets. I need something that will come off easily. Might have to download the pic and zoom in.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

I think I have access to 30' of 2 1/2" - 3/16 square tubing. I'll check after our weekend trip. Have to figure out what to make the pockets out of yet.

Re: I drank the Kool-Aid

I might have better access to flat stock. Thats pretty strong right there, I've yet to bend it. I do want it to give if I hit something, so it cant be too strong.
