I may be STUPID, but I can prove it!!!

Here is the second addition to my skool bus family. I will probably pay more in gas than the bus to get her home.

http://www.skoolie.net/gallery2/v/Skooli ... +and+No+3/

She is a 1985 All American with a 427 Chevy and a MT643. Rearend is something like 6.83. Mileage is 249k. Engine rebuilt at 140k and trans rebuilt at 230k.

It might be thirsty, but that tall deck 427 will be a trooper! Forged internals, an extra piston ring thanks to the higher deck height, etc. Those engines are well sought after by the race guys for making strokers or long lasting engines on the cheap.

Not a whole lot to tell right now. I just won the bid today. It was on publicsurplus. I have to pick it up in West Virginia. I know it will suck fuel, but I thought it might make a good boat motor if I find a diesel engine for cheap. I want to make a toy hauler type of bus. The body looks super clean from what I can tell. My winning bid was $1550. I was hoping to get it under $1000, but no such luck. I also bid on a Ward that had a rebuilt 5.9 Cummins. That went for way more than I wanted to spend. It will be at least a month before I get ol' 85 out here.

The sickness is not over yet!

I get 5.5 MPG with my '76, same engine, tranny and rearend, it doesn't like hills but I don't see why you would change it to diesel, what a job! Just got back from Tulsa last weekend and it did well, all flat, 55-60 most of the time. Good luck on the conversion, great bus for that, very strong frame. Like mine I am sure it's all galvanized. sportyrick

The only way I would consider an engine swap would be if I tripped over a really cheap engine on the way to the donut shop. My 89 BBAA with the 8.3 Cummins got a solid 10.5 from Phoenix to Central California even with that afc line busted (less power). Now that it's fixed, I hope I pick up another .5 to 1 mpg. The 89 also has a 4.10 rearend.

The sickness is over, but I'm still running a fever. I told you I could prove my stupidity. Look at the last addition to the family. This one is only 50 miles from me. Picking it up next week.

http://www.skoolie.net/gallery2/v/Skooli ... +and+No+3/

DT466 with a MT643. 72824 original miles and a face only a mother could love. Aeordynamic like a parachute.

I won't buy anything else for at least a month to give you guys a chance to buy something. :P

Bought by one school district from another school district. It was a workshop van/bus converted from a school bus. I see yellow on the firewall. After they bought it, they never used it. It has outlets, but no generator. It was for maintanence to go from one school to another and have their supplies and workspace with them. I believe it's a Ward. The roof looks a little bit taller than pictures of Wards that I've seen on the web. The mileage is original. I want to make a toy hauler type of bus with this one. Everyone I have spoken with has told me that the 466 is an awesome motor. I am happy with this one since I can use it as soon I get my hands on it.

Well, I picked up the Ward today. It is in good condition, but it's definately not built like a Bluebird. I think there are more rivets in one roof bow (or whatever you call it) on the Bluebird than on the whole roof of the Ward. The cabinets make more racket than I can stand when you hit potholes. You know we only have two potholes in the whole state of California (my friend is an engineer for Caltrans and he tells me California has a terrific freeway system). I must have been driving in circles because I think I hit those two potholes 500 times on the way home. The power is not like the Bluebird. I don't know how you guys with the DT360's can stand it(not tring to pick any fights. ). But this one starts right up when you touch the key and that motor really purrrrrrs. I am happy with it. If anybody close wants those shelves/cabinets, let me know soon because they are coming out. If nobody wants them, they're coming out with a sledge. More to come...

Wow, isn't that something! I also plan to add a small rear deck with some type of stair to my bus but I wasn't planning on something that extravagant!
