[/IMG][/IMG] Just in case I want to go with a eaton 9 speed, I located a potato truck that was being scrapped for some missing clutch pedal hardware. The bus came with an automatic at545.

What engine did it have and why did you chose to go with the 6V92? Just wondering.
I have an 85 International S1800, so I like these.

If you are happy with a school bus motor. The plan is to build it as a toter. The 7.3 IDI and Allison at545 with around a 5.something gear ratio in the rear end is perfectly fine transporting children to and fro but it would never have the grunt I want. I was a farmboy in my previous life so I drove overloaded trucks all the time. The Detroit 6v92TA puts the shortbus in league with the big rigs hauling 100,000+ ....(legal in Michigan by the way) it fits the s1700 like a glove and can be serviced anywhere on the planet. The other reason. I will have a very capable truck when finished. A beach cruiser with a sound like no other. In FLA these little entitled pricks drive big diesels too be cool. I could fill their cab with soot if I so choose. Lol. A 9 speed Eaton ( 9 is overdrive ) would give me some gears when pulling and top end on the highway. You don't have to use all 9 by the way. Shortbus could drive around town all day in high range. You use low gear in high range from a dead stop and that gives you 5 on the high side. If I were pulling a big toy hauler with a jeep unlimited in the back, I would skip low gear in the high range side when shifting from low to high only using the last four gears in high. Like this. Low, 2,3,4,5, split to high, 2is6, 3is7, 4is8 and 5is9. I could do an automatic but a 9 eaton would be more fun. No air brakes so I could push start the thing if I had to.

Thank you for the compliment. This is my first but we had plenty of conventional straight trucks on the farm as I was growing up. So Im looking forward to making Shortbus into a screeming demon. Lol. Rule#1 Never make fun of Shortbus. Rule#2 Roll up your windows. Lol!

I get long winded. Shortbus came stock with the 7.3 liter. It uses 6 lug budd rims instead of 10 like a big rig so the decision to go with the 6v92 was space and weight. The 6v at 1900 lbs compared to the 7.3 at 950lbs. A 8v92 would fit but would add another 1000lbs making it 2900lbs of motor. Not a good choice for a repower. The 6v92ta with mechanical gov is the way to go because it fits the 1700/1800 without much to mod. Mileage wise it compares with the 7.3 IDI if geared correctly and you don't go crazy with huge injectors. I cant say that Im not going to use bigger injectors in Shortbus because I most likely will.

Actually I was referring to roll up windows because your going to get a taist of your own medicine. .. my exaust. The diesel punks down here like blowing smoke in your face if you run without a top...

Yes need air conditioning. I plan on making provisions on the engine for a compressor. I thought of a small split unit for 120 hook up. I'm not cutting any holes in the body.

lol yeah i noticed that alot on SoBe.. havent seen the black-smokers too much here in st pete.. they are all over in Ohio.. i think its cool as hell.. but thats just me.. in ohio its the guys with the 7.3's.. a few cummins.. but uo there its Ford / GM country..

for A/C, some have done a window unit out one of the backl windows of the bus for the 120.. If you have room you can try a Mini-split, regardless, you'll find that unless you insulate the ceiling / tint or blind the windows that when parked in the sun hooked to 120 it will require much more A/C than you think.. at night a small unit will cool easily..

I have a portable 2 hose (2 hose is important), 120 volt portable unit with a soft-start compressor that will cool my 7 row shorty when parked at night or in the shade.. but wont touch it in the sun.. that bus is all bone stock clear windows and stock roof.. I havent tried that portable unit in the new bus.. the unit is at my place in ohio and im in florida.. plus the sun angle is going down this time of year so this isnt the best season to Test A/C performance.. I usually stress and performance test all my A/C stuff in ohio in late june.. and in florida from late april - end of august..

I added road A/C to the DEV and used an under-body mount condenser so I didnt have to cut the skirt.. would I do it again I wouldve put in a skirt condenser.. i dont get quite the air-flow direction id like under it... i get some air recirculation into it so the head pressure runs up a little..

Red-Dot (a moibile A/C company) makes compressor brackets for many many engines.. to Drive a Seltec TM-16 compressor (the defacto standard compressor).. Bracketry systems makes brackets for pretty much every engine.. but their stuff is much pricier than Red-Dot.

dont put your condenser in front of your Turbo cooler or radiator.. it will effect engine temp and performance...

there are more and more people on the forum buying busses that have road A/C installed only to yank it out.. you may be able to get some used A/C gear reasonably priced or free.. use a NEW compressor, flush out the coils (those are the expensive pieces).. and make your own Freon lines.. (Burga-Clip is SIMPLE to do.. no more special crimping tools).. ..

Ha! Funny. I've been installing a couple elevators in St Pete for the last 8 weeks. Im kiddie corner from the Coliseum in Peterborough Apts. Been staying in a pop up in Tontosassa Fla durring the week and driving back to FMB on the weekends. Busy so I will be working in the area till 2017. 10-4 on the red dot for the engine air and relocated condenser. The mini split is exactly what I was thinking for the 120. I would stratoflex the lines or have hydraulic type lines made. The condenser and mini pump can mount to the frame under the body. I checked measurements already. The evaporator can go under the dash or a passinger seat in the front. I cover my camper with mylar bubble wrap to shield from the sun. Brass eyelets make it into a nice tarp. Also. The paint is going back to Fla pattern , white on top like the new ones.

you are about 6 blocks from my apartment building... im in the beacon430 in 3rd ave aouth.. i walk by where you are at fairly often...

what a great idea on the bubble wrap.. that should work great!. you can get minisplit evaporators in all kinds of different configurations...

I used mini splits in my ohio house.. but I didnt want the ugly wall units, and I wanted the to be controlled by my computer.. so I too kthe coild, boards, and sensors out of the wall-mount cabinet and made my own ecnlosures that allowed me to put the coils into my home ducted system... floor registers.. temp sensors measure and are "computer-compensated" for the coil being under the floor instead of up on the wall.. thats been runnng over 7 years now.. so you can mod those splits to your liking as long as you keep the board and temp sensors..

10 4. I have some ventilated controller cabnets that I could box in the air handler with and make it look like under-seat stock bus hardware . I kept two stock seats up front for passengers. Of coarse red dot will fit into the existing ducting for the engine air.
