Having a hard time working on the bus... the lady whose house we have it in lancaster ca, just kicked us out after the 3rd day of work since we started at the beginning of the month, now we need to find a new place. will update later with news.
p.s. if anyone knows of anyone in the greater los angeles region with a yard or land for us to park, we are willing to pay. Thanks

I lived in Danbury in the 80's while stationed at the Sub base in Groton. I love Ct and the beautiful countryside! All of New England is nice. It's just that it's surrounded by the communist states of NY, NJ and MA. New England is still awesome. I took the family up there several years ago on vacation since they have never been and they loved the whole vibe. Much more laid back pace than here in the Va Beach area. idk why she kicked us out. we've only managed to work 3 days since we started earlier this month after paying her $300 for 3 months just to help out(she didnt even ask for money but im just tht type of guy). she said she wasnt use to having people at her house, shes a bit of a recluse, blah blah blah. yea it sucks but we're looking for another place hopefully closer to home.

ok, so i know i havent updated much, truth is progress has been slow with the whole finding a new place to build the bus thing. However, there is good news. the local school bus company agreed to remove the wheel chair lift and a few other things for me, free of charge, and also do some maintenance work on the bus, in exchange for the almost brand new lift and other accessories. question, what should i have them check, again, i know next to nothing about buses, and since you guys do, what would u advise that i ask them to do? they seem pretty cool and i think they would do anything within reason.
so if yall want to write me a list of things i should ask them to check/fix, that would be great. thx friends!!!

That is great news!

No expert by any means here, but at a minimum, i'd ask to check just as you would on a car:
-all fluids + lines
-breaks (compressor if air, hydraulics lines, etc...)
-all grease/joint points
-if there is a turbo, check it
-any leaks from the engine, trans, any gasket...
-any electrical harness (there might be at least one, since your bus is newer than mine)

Probably these are all obvious, and you thought about them, already.
I'm sure the veterans on here can think of more. And please, if i'm talking out of my @$$, tell me to shut up

Exactly right. Think used car. Look for any damage. Oil leaks, rust, dents. Look over the drive train carefully. The oil and the transmission fluid should not smell burnt or singed. Squeeze the radiator hoses, squeeze the charmine, best of all take it for a drive if possible.

definitely take it for a drive.. but also look up pre-trip checklist..

the video below can be used as a guide... its geared towards a CDL test.. however its a great way to look at a bus you are wanting to purchase..

a bus that has a current or very recent DOT sticker will likely pass most all of these checks...

alrighty then, finally got the bus moved and getting ready to paint and prep for paint this week.
so the plan:
remove any stickers tht need to be removed
scrub it down nice and clean
sand her
a few layers of rustoleum
a few layer of very reflective white paint
eternal bond tape on all the over laps on ceiling where they are riveted together and around emergency hatches.

anything i should change here? anything out of order? should i do the tape at the very end after i have painted or should i just paint over it?

and tip of type of sanding paper, types of paints etc would be great. thx

also this is my attempt to make it water proof, cheers!!!

Me...I'd get some paintable seal sealer and apply some to every joint on the roof and around any thru passes (wires, plumbing, vents, whatever)...then do my painting. Which, BTW should be a reflective elastomeric (white or silver) to help seal seams and keep heat transfer through the metal down.

I'm using white elastomeric for the roof...that stuff is THICK!
So thick, i used it to plug the mount holes from the seats lol (with the help of a few strips of sticky mesh )

You can add chopped fiber to it to patch pretty large gaps as well.
