Ok Guys, I went and Bought it, and Drove it home 330 miles for its First Test run....I figured Might as Well break it in right....lol

1997 Thomas Built Flat Face Unit with an 8.3 Cummins and 5/6 speed Allison Auto.....It did great except on hills....If I did not hit a Grade at above 60 mph...it would slug out and drop off to 35 and hold there in 3rd gear....Never once got hot, or even warm....Just a Slug on big grades....I think I can Fix that in Short order....;)

Hope these Pics Work....

I will be cleaning it out, then doing 10ft Modular removable Shelf units Down Both Sides, For Dog Crates.

With Shelves Removed, I can do Bunks and Such for road trips or Hunting Season....

This Thing is HUGE inside.....More later, I am wooped..Left home at 6am friday...its now 1:30am into saturday....

First Pic is all hooked up ready to Leave, and Head home..

Looking from Front at the Rear....They left me some goodies to clean up...lol

From Rear looking Forward

From Crescent City California, I took the Oregon Coast road Hwy 101 all the way to Florence....Figured No better way to introduce myself to the BUS than Driving it on a Nasty twisty, lumpy, NASTY Road....lol It was a Perfectly AWESOME DAY too....

I had no one to tag team this Trip, so I took my car trailer behind the Forester, then just loaded the Forester to Come Home....Nice and HAndy the Bus already had a Tow Package....I had to fix someones HACK JOB on the trailer wiring, but that was easy....

I have lots of Idea's Floating thru My Very tired Head.....Have a Good Weekend All.....More pics Soon...

NICE score!!! I drive a 2000 and LOVE her. Patiently waiting for her to get to auction..... Looks like yours was privately owned with all the seats gone and "stuff" inside..... How did you find her?

I had Been not so Patiently watching my Local Craigslist for the last 2 years....I am a Mechanic and Fabricator, and I new What I wanted...for my Specific reasons, knowing I was going to Use it Cross Country and To move the Pooches....This One popped up for 8000.00.....I talked the Owner Down to 3000 Cash and a Freshly Re-sealed Subaru...

I work On Subaru's at home.....;)

it was a Win Win......

Has this build progressed, 64crew4x4? My planned rig is also dog-centric (I show GSDs) and would love to see what ideas you came up with. I'm also looking at a RE Thomas.

Pulling a trailer/car and having 30' of driveshaft to lose HP through, you did fine. You wont be changing your uphill speeds with that setup.

Hey Opus, did you mean to say NOT having 30' of driveshaft to loose HP?

Just curious,

J
