Re: La Tortuga...updated 08-26-13

Bodie light house, very cool

some campground shots

Hatteras sands, nice, clean and they are working on it...manager was a work camper and was nice....

rental car $22 a day with a 150 miles...cheaper than a towed

view out kitchen windows

we went and saw Cape Hatteras light house

view through light keepers 2nd floor bedroom window

Neat place since they actually had to move it from original site due to erosion, hell of a project

mmmm...we went to Ocracoke Island for the day, rented a golf cart to tour the island

had a couple colds ones on the water and went to light house

small little guy thats white washed

Re: La Tortuga...updated 08-26-13

so first night at hatteras sands we were told about a fish market right up the road....we fell in love with the lady running it,every day her husband and son went fishing/gigging etc....and she sold what they had

best part????

she loved the bus and us!

She gave us fresh herbs from the garden to go with whatever we bought!!! she said dried spices wont do this food justice...no crap!! she was right

prepping

cook top

fish and scallops

black/white sesame encrusted tuna cooked in sesame seed oil, basil, rosemary and topped with more fresh herbs(all of this came from fish market)

We gave her a signed wooden turtle as a thank you and reminder of us
.
.
we cooked fresh sea food every night except one(we should of cooked...restaurant sucked)

next Corolla....fish taco's, cold beer, horses and light houses...busy day

Re: La Tortuga...updated 08-26-13

so it's a long drive up to Corrola from Hatteras...about 2 hours one way

we did a wild pony tour...very cool, we went down beach and into neighbor hoods and onto private land, they were gorgous

Lisa got ton's of pictures...we drove by Dennis Andersons sea side cottage...there was a huge monster truck School bus there!!!
He gives friends and such rides on the beach...very cool

we went to the currituck light house, it is the furthest north one in N.C.

I like this one the most

we stopped by the memorial for the wright brothers....this whole area has change since last visit in 1987!!!

here we are in line for the first ferry ride, 20 mins from Hatteras to ocracoke

getting off the ferry at Ocracoke was a Beotch...low tide made fro a very steep ramp...I ground about 1/4 inch off the bottom of the steps....it's steel so it's cool

The ferry ride from Ocracoke to Cedar landing, was 2-1/2 hours

On the ferry now..what to do??

when in a bus start with lunch

kind of like a cruise ship

then a nap and read new issue of BCM

next stop...Emerald Island..........

so we stayed at the Holiday-trav-L park...really nice place

It was supposed to be a 1 nite lay over going to Wilmington...we ended up staying 5 night

the Park even had a free wine tasting in their wine market!!!!!wow...all of our neighbors were there from the yellow section...it was a fun couple hours and the wine flowed freely
.
.
....oh and they have a pool also

we were less than 1 min from beach!!!

the last night we had to move since we extended our stay

Ron's Tiki bar, great guy!!! he was the first to great us when we arrived, loved him, can't wait to see him next year

a couple new additions to the decor!!

salt/pepper shakers...non-magnetic SS!!! the colors are from the curtains and the blue shorts I had on

relaxing on beach

......hello~~

sunday we headed back northwest.....I did not want to go back to work.....

Awesome! Glad you had a good trip and no problems. Bus was looking great, standing out in that crowd of boring RVs. Did you get many RV people asking you about it?

Man, these pictures are amazing!! Looks like so much fun. Seeing trip reports like this get me insanely excited, haha... Thanks for sharing! We are headed to California in 2 weeks and I can't wait.

BTW, taking the bus on a ferry is now on my bucket list.
