Just remember it is 20 min from Hatteras to Ocracoke only go at HIGH tide if you are flat nose bus...low tide; ramp was so steep it ground off the bottom corner of my stair wheel...really steep ramp on Hatteras side of island

going to cedar from Ocracoke was smooth a lot nicer ramp

Thanks everyone for comments

I would probably need rollers installed where the tow hooks are in the rear! That overhang doesn't like steep transitions.

Re: La Tortuga...updated 09-25-13

Looks like a great time was had! Putting a bus on the ferry isn't for the faint of heart. In NC the ferry system is part of the DOT, and NC School buses can travel on the ferries free of charge. I took a load of students to Fort Fisher in Wilmington NC and we took a ferry from Fort Fisher to South Port...I drove the cheese wagon on the ferry and they were nice enough to give me all the space I needed....luckly it was a conventional cab activity bus so we didn't drag on the entry or exit, but I sure we were close on that exit. I know your bus isn't 4x4, but if you ever get the chance take the ferry from Morehead City to Portsmoth Island (the northern island of Cape Lookout National Seashore) you can drive and camp out on the beach....surf fish...and the people are few....AWESOME fishing and great for sea shells!.......Keep the pics of the trips coming...we'll ive vicariously through your expeditions till our bus is ready for its own!

Re: La Tortuga...updated 09-25-13

after reading the e-book "The Island" by Michael Stark's I really wanted to get out to Portsmouth...next time I guess

The book starts out right down the road from where we live and ends up on Portsmouth, we drove the same route out to the coast

Re: La Tortuga...updated 09-25-13

I figured I would post this, before it gets changed if anyone needs an idea

We needed a place to hang clothes for the trip, so the day before we left I drilled 2 holes in the roof and inserted Pem nuts
then screwed 2 1/4-20 studs into them, and secured with 2 nuts to ceiling
and then grabbed a pc of pvc pipe and drill matching holes in it

I slid it onto the 2 studs and spun a nut onto it to hold it up

After loading with clothes I pushed the end up and spun the nut up to hold hangers in place, at camp I would just spin nut back down

NO clothes were harmed with this process
