got the passenger seat mounted, I recycled an old seat base to get over hump easily

still need to clean up tubing and put gusset in/finish welding etc and make the console for storage and a place to put arm and use pc mouse

Re: El Tortuga

Bansil. After rereading your build thread........ I had a few thoughts... If you haven't already fixed this list?

1)fix back door handle,I used it more in 2 days than in 10 years of schooling....so like Rainbows..it's broke
Dead bolt latch should work to secure it???

2)way to hold back door open so we don't get squashed!!
What about something like a car hood support rod???

3)some kind of lock box...
What about an Army ammo surplus can, you can secure it by bolting it down to the floor and installing a hasp on the box???

4)stairs/steps into back
What about the swing steps, sorta like the ones on the back of a boat only bigger... swing down to use, up to move???

5)remove back 12' of seats for storage and room for 2 cots
EZ one..... got her done.

6)remove/seal up entrance door and install co-pilot seat
Got her done... seat anyway...

7)wall off cockpit and sound deaden it
What about starting under neat the hood with some spray on insulation or the metal looking wrap at home depot and/or lowes? reflects heat and noise...

Darn... my brain is hurting now. Think I'll go lay down???

We used a heavy bungie cord on the Class C's entrance door. The bus' entrance door is heavier as is the rear emergency door. So I use one of our cargo ratcheting straps on both. The emergency door has the metal bracket the the red handle drops behind. That works to attach the strap to and run the strap around the corner side then under the bus to a hook point under the bumper. Easier to do than write out. On the entrance door, there is an eye bolt in the lower inside corner and I attach a strap there and run it to one of the step holes in the front bumper. It's cheap & it works. We always have a selection of cargo ratcheting straps.

My lock right now is a pc of 1/4 rope wrapped around said bar about a "bazillion" times...to open I grab it and slide the whole wrap to the side, open door...jump down and unravel the robe and tie it around bumper end like minds and all...plans are to use a metal rod and clip etc

It's just "temporary" right? My parents lived in a very old single wide mobile home for many years (about 20 years). My Dad said it was "temporary" when he bought the thing (for cash). My Mom always said "the most permanent things in the world are "temporary". "Temporary" is a dangerous word to use...

Re: El Tortuga

Lorna...see... back door locked

the slidddddeeeee to the side(so 70's disco)

and the temp door holder open thingy

so decide to fix the back door handle today

it flopped in the wind.......

took off both sides and after looking at all the pcs and assy....this is a bs design from an engineer...

how in the hell with proper length spring pin to engage both sides of inside handle;...errrhhhhh....so they did the lets get one side in and hit it so handle sits flush(it'll be fine..)yeah for 10 openings and 15 years,,,,,argh...
so
the outside and inside are held together in uni---son.. by a spring pin..which is to short and...yaydaydaa bs..

should be obvious...and no it's not from the titanic....metal gone..no where to attach

so I grinded it off to stock and added some metal...

sticking out cut off flush to roll pin

more welded and then cut off

so i need to make a washer/shim next week but it works!!
so
what is next?....a bottle of wine with my sweet heart!!!.........chow!!!

Re: El Tortuga

today I broke out the sewing machine and started on some straps to secure some items in back

I have alot of 1 inch webbing letover from a project, that plus some velcro and 1 inch rings
and the sewing begins

I added pcs of ribbon to contain the rings when loose

I ran out of supplies (velcro) so I got 4 done and abunch more in various stages.

I modified some rings I picked up

here they are installed

basically you pull the tab and undo 6 inches of velcro and walla...access to junk

I can post more pics later if people are interested very easy to do

Re: El Tortuga

also started on a quick and cheap set of counter tops that will be beside the stove
everything marked on wall

space where temp fridge and microwave are is the space alotted for the real fridge
(and yes that stuff will be secured with ratchet straps before trip in 3 weeks)

well back outside so much to do...may grab some wine and paint on the bus....

Re: El Tortuga

Thank you for nice comments on the straps ya'll

so rest of the day was kinda lazy doing little things that had to be done....

okay got some more done
custom "tinted windows" to hide the counters...looked bad from outside

installed a passenger drink holder

and painted some more on front of bus...oh and just because they actually sell 1/2 wide brushes....well there is alot of real estate to paint on a bus
before:

after:

plan is to continue tan up to black "pockets around lights" and then tape the bottom of the black there and fill it in....and then if I like it...a custom" name tag for between the lights
.
.
argh...always remember this:
Baby steps....baby steps....
