so I started the windows. I hope that you guys dont read how I did this and tell me I screwed up lol. To start i removed the windows and disassembled them. I took 7/8 osb and attached primed metal flashing to it. then I placed the wood in the frame, where the windows would go. heres a pic of the test fit
when i put this in the bus. I hated it, if felt like there was just to many places that needed to be caulked and that it was going to leak. So I kept the idea of the metal attached to the wood backer. But I placed the wood into the the opening on the bus where the window would have been. I caulked all the edges. I tube of caulk per window. then I used 1x4 all around the window to hold the wood in place.

Once in place this seemed to give a cleaner line, and less to caulk on the outside. it seems to be pretty strong too. no flex on the wood. this is the finished window

That's how it's done! I filled many of my windows using 1/2" plywood laminated with smooth FRP. Then primed the same color as the bus, using a UV blocking automotive primer to protect the FRP. Sealed in place with quality butyl rubber caulking, then ran a bead of exterior caulking around the seam inside, then covered with 1/2' rigid insulation, sealed with sealing tape, and covered with my interior panelling. Works great!

We only used wood as a backer on the windows that would have vents thru them (needed to attach the vent to something). I also used a whole tube of caulking per window. Where did all that caulking go? I'm pretty sure our windows won't be leaking.

Havent had a chance to post in a bit. I have finished the windows that will be blocked out now. So Im waiting for the new rv windows to come in and i can get all that in place. Im going to start the framing and I have a quick question for everyone.....is there a reason i cant use regular insulation on my outside walls? it just seems like everyone eles uses the insulation board.

I think people have said that if any moisture got into the regular insulation it would hold that moisture and cause the metal walls to rust.
