If the fans are easily removed, then maybe the rest of the heater core and housing could be cleaned relatively quickly with a garden hose or pressure washer so that they don't leave their mark on everything that gets stored near them.

had 2 in the back under seats, I removed them. still have the 2 dash heaters they work great, I figured if I get into really cold weather I would put up my curtain behind the driver and passengers seats to keep warm, and run the furnace or electric heat(generator running) while heading to warmer weather.
The curtain behind the seats works well with the A\C to keep us cool.
