Looking at this Red 2006 Thomas Saf-T-Liner

Hi everyone,

First post for me. Have been reading/lurking for a while and admire all the great project people have done. I'm looking at this 2006 Thomas Saf-T-Liner (30ft) and was hoping for some opinions:

They are asking $23,900 which I think is about $9+k too much! What do you think? Has a lot of good stuff in place to start a conversion.

We live in CT, so we would have to drive it across country to get it home.
Anyway, a good project bus? Should we just find something cheaper on the east coast?

Clean bus, way too much money, there are so many other ones out there. Look at auctions first. Bus Retailers are way over priced.

The C7 isn't something I'd want to mess with.
The price more than optimistic.

Cat c7 look up the noted problems with them. Good when they are running but when the heui has issues it is an expensive problem.
I will say price is high but the genie is worth some money and roof air will save some money.

I bought from these ppl. I left the bus at a local truck shop for oil and filter changes. Now that I have my Vermont plates and insurance, I’m flying back Thursday to drive it home. Search “Vermont registration” on this forum if you don’t know what I’m talking about.

My bus is identical to the one above except mine has AC. It’s the older CAT motor. It’s not the most popular motor on this forum, but considered better than the C7.

Remind me next week to tell you how my 958 mile trip went.

That would be the Cat 3126. Its a fine motor.
While its true Cats can be expensive, so can ANY of these engines.
And pre-emissions straight six diesel is ok in my book.
I'm actually very pleased with my 3126.

NW Bus Sales is WAY overpriced, as are most bus resellers. Try Midwest Transit Equipment | New Buses and Used Buses for Sale instead. I bought my 03 Saf-T-Liner from them for $8K and drove it from Kankakee, IL to Billings, MT with no problems at all. A steady 65 mph and I got 7 mpg. Of course, I was driving a brick, but it rode steady and seemed to float over the miles.

Thanks everyone for the wonderful reply's. I'll put the Red Bus on the back burner for now. I gave them a low offer and said "let me know if you want to get rid of it". I'll keep looking!
