Cushions are done!

The cushions were finally finished up today at the Amish upholstery shop and got to get them in and boy are they comfy! The fridge is fired up and running. We got a beautiful site reserved at a State Park. Can't wait for Saturday!

If you look at the pic above you can see my voltage meter at 12.5v and this morning when I looked at it the reading was 12.4v so this fridge is very efficient!

Not only is it efficient, but it's tape matches your water bottles(-:

REALLY nice build you built yourself, Looks like many years of fun ahead of you.

We will work out all the bugs while camping this weekend. The water system and shower will be tested.

Camping weekend

This might be a long post, but bear with me. It was lots of fun, but also a learning experience for me.

We had a very successful weekend of camping in the bus with only a couple issues! We got to the campground, checked in, put 20 gallons of water in the holding tank, and got parked in our site on Saturday afternoon and had our first issue. During the 45 minute drive there the fridge door popped open. When I got to the site I seen my voltage on the meter was around 12.1 from the fridge being open all that time. I seen the problem was wifey put too much weight in the fridge door and that is why it opened. Lesson learned.

It was cloudy and a little rainy the first day and my batteries did not recover much from the fridge mishap. Where we camped there was no wifi, no TV signal, and hardly any cell service, but we did have a 20 amp electric service. I told myself that I refused to use a cord and plug in. The next morning wifey tried to brew a pot of coffee and about 3/4 through the power inverter started beeping and shut down

Well, I broke out the cord and plugged the fridge directly into the 20 amp service. The batteries fully recovered by the afternoon. I also had our second issue with the water system. I used vinyl hose from the pump to the sink and figured fuel injection type clamps would work, but they did not tighten enough. Turned on the pump and I could hear water spraying under the sink

I quickly shut it off, cleaned up the water, and went to my tool kit and replaced all the clamps with regular worm type clamps. I also turned the pressure down on the pump and then the sink worked great. Had no issues after that. I am glad these issues popped up because it's how you test what you build in the real world.

During our stay at the campground we had like 15 people come up to us and ask to see the bus including the campground staff who said they never had a bus conversion at the park. Besides those who came to see the bus, numerous people drove by in cars, walked, or rode bicycles VERY slowly to get a look inside the windshield of the bus. Our bus was the conversation piece of the weekend

Wifey wants an air conditioner because she was hot while sleeping, but I had no trouble keeping cool with the 12v fan and Ryobi 18v fan blowing directly on us. I have learned that this bus is perfect for recreational use as it is, but when we decide to retire and go full time, I might want to double the solar panels and battery bank since wifey is a bit of an energy hog

Awesome sounding trip. Glad you figured a few of the glitches out. Are you going to fasten some sort of lock to the fridge to keep it from opening?

Sounds like it was a good weekend

Ceiling Painted

Finally got the ceiling painted today. Took two coats of trim work and two coats of rolling. The solid panels came out beautiful. The vented panels at the front look like crap. Not sure what to do with them. Regardless, this thing looks way better with the ceiling done.............

I have seen Child locks used to keep them closed in transit. And bungie cords.

painting and electrical

Henry's Tropicool 887, $70/gal, is an excellent long-term water proofer. The white is highly reflective but Physics has found silver to be more reflective of heat. i used Henry's Tropicool 885 Seam Seal around the roof hatches and on roof seams.

before the finish coat i sanded the peeling clear-coat on the hood and primed with Zinster BIN from home depot.

i painted the roof with Hunter Green Rustolem with ceramic micro balls i added for insulation. i used a roller on the roof, then rolled what i could on the rest, and finished with a 3" brush. i used two coats of matching spray on the blk side strips and wheel nuts.

It looks good for a tank, not a car. [but i did paint a metro with roller and Rustoleum ]
Rustolem oil base, $25/gal, stays shiny for yrs with no waxing.

electrical depends on the user. we cant have too many outlets.
my residence-bus has a lot of electrical for convenience and adaptation. Who knows future needs? and it is very hard to add wiring

We can run any 110A device off grid in moderation: saws, welder, airconditioner, refrigerator etc. When designing our system we considered day vs night and Summer vs Winter. Cooling on Summer days is the hog.

Currently the bus has
400Wsolar, 600Ah in 12v batteries, 3000W inverter, 30A 110V and 16 circuit breakers,
ten 12v fuses, nine LED area lights, six LED motion sensors, two LED spotlights, USB ports, four 12v receptacles, thirteen 110V receptacles [two outside] and five power strips with six plugins each. It is great to never need an extension cord.

All 300ft [est.] of wiring is proper stranded [automotive] wire installed by 2 electricians. NO ROMEX HOUSE WIRING which can not take vibration and flexing.

my schoolbus can only do 55 on a long downhill...the rpm was up but not getting the speed...tranny shifted properly but not pulling much. slowed down drastically going uphill to 45 even w foot in the throttle.

where is the trans and differential info?

I can go faster than 65 mph now, but my rpm is around 2600 at above that speed. I keep it around 55 mph and it seems to be the sweet spot. No hurry.
