My bus Project With a new name....

I have a 78 carpenter bus that is named Road Trip but I think it will have a new name when I am done.. the new name will be Expelled... I guess the name fits me because when I was at school I would end up expelled . And now my bus is no longer in school . So it to has been Expelled....I have had this bus done at one time and now I am doing it over. In side and out.. I am taking off the rub rails, changing the lights, adding a power door opener, adding side boxes and a genarator to the left side. and much more to come. Here what I did for the side box. They are pickup side boxes that I found on yard sales for $15 to $25 bucks that are easy to do and look good to.





And here is the new tail lights that look cool at night they are all LED lights





I have the door opener done and it works great but I had to remove it all to weld it up... It works with a remote and when to door opens I have step light that come on and will go off when it shuts... I also have a bypass for when you are camping and going in and out all the time you can open it by hand. I will try to get a movie with it working..All for now

I like the boxes, great idea. How deep are they & did you mount them to the frame? (photo of them open would be cool)

What purpose do the rails serve? Stiffen the sides? Just for rubbing?

I like the LED lights, good job. Also like the side boxes, great find there for sure.

I mounted the side box to the bottm of the floor...They are not very deep but where this set I didn't want it to be because there will be things behind it. I plan on removing the back of the next one and making it deeper.....The rails are a school thing because I have seen alot buses without them. I think they are nothing but trouble. They just hold in dirt and start rust...There was rust behind every one of mine. It was just starting and I fixed it with no problems.....I will that a pic of the back of the box.

This is the way I locked my rear door.. I have posted here defore....easy to do and works very well..

Well got the Awning done this week end...Turned great. I use a 12x16 foot tarp and some EMT conduit. The poles side in and out plus you can roll the tarp all the way up. I made to be removed and stored under the bus.....

The end of the poles I drove a nut into the end of a piece of 3/4 EMT and welded it in place and scewed in the eye bolt.


This one is a pic of the side poles and how they adjust. I used a piece of 3/4 EMT and slid it into a piece of 1 inch Emt and the welded a 3/4 compression fitting to the 1inch pipe. So you loosen the nut and slid it where you want it.



This is the ujoint for the crank that you roll the tarp up with. When you have it where you want it just lock the crank back and it stays in place.




And last here it is stored under the bus..

Pop rivet with a little j hook. It take me about 10 min to put up. Thats by myself...

yeah i know i need to post some pics of the door but when badpuppy was up here
and was checking out my bus he seen the lock and well i'll let him fill that out i know
he'll see this and more then like lee add some thing.
