new project too
HI to you all ,
since i saw that site, forum ...im all excited !
I just bought a wayne lifestar flat nosed , dieseled powered , 38 feet , school bus to convert it to an rv for mutiple uses ...
the last 13 feet will be use as a garage for my Jeep (for now)
im looking for a smashed rv to use all the convenience in my bus !
I plan to convert the rear suspension to an air ride conversion to ease the jeep entry, by lowering the rear end at my wish...
im new to this ,but have done so many projects in my life ,that it should be another fun one ....
sorry for my english faults ,,,,im mostly french! ,

I've seen the Jeep hauler done before. The stock suspension will hold the weigh fine. Neatest one I saw used the back end of the bus as a fold down ramp.

Hi Dave,
I wish I could do this but the jeep weights about 3500 pounds ...I dont think the back end cap could take the weight when loading unless I reinforce from the inside with welded on solid ramps ....

the school bus is no standard rv. You can load your jeep with no problem. The bus is on an extremely heavy duty chassis! I have a jacuzzi inside my bus weighing in at over 4 thousand pounds. Don't underestimate the strength of the skoolie. The Frame is heavy duty, and there's 2 beams that goe up the wall, across the cieling, down the other wall, and across teh floor for every window. There are two more beams that run across the ceiling the entire length of the bus.
As a comparasin, you can look at a typical trailer that you might use to haul a jeep, and you'll see that the skoolie is far superior in the strength.
The only question i have is will the jeep fit inside??

A standard CJ type fits fine as the front wheels will rest on the wheel wells.

I ll fold the windshield down and modify the roll bar to fold in some way ,because the jeep is 7-3" high on 36" tires .... but width wise no problem at 68" ....and this way if it breaks no trailer to tow...
still leaves about 19 feet to live in ..... and a 13 feet room at the back for rainy days ...

Maybe you can get some ideas for your jeep hauler from my project. Here's a link to the photo gallery: http://trx.punknet.org/gallery/skoolie I did a considerable amount of fabrication, enough that I hope I don't have to do it again (at least any time soon). My bus hauls my 5000 lb IH Scout II without a problem.

Greetings,
After I completed my conversion it weighed 15550 with a full tank of gas and 95 gallons of water onboard.
The listed GVW for the bus is 26000.
That leaves a little over 5 TONS of capacity.
I don't think a jeep would fill that!
I would be careful about weight balance as most of the weight (the heavy stuff like jeep, ramps, etc.) will be behind the axle and may make the front end light and cause weird handling.
Of course, you will add living quarters and that will help.
Just a warning to give you something to think about.
Have fun and post pictures as you progress.
Cheers,
Vern1
