one of my credit card companies offers a personal Loan service and the interest rate is very competitive.. in fact lower than going to a bank and getting one.. unlike a cash advance its set up as an installment loan so its fixed payment and with no early repayment fee... you can take that money, open a checking account with it that you then set up as a wire transfer account with the auction house.. once you are done buying stuff in auctions, you pull any momey left and close the account..

that would be ideal - my cc company can't be described the same way - you can't temporarily boost the line of credit for a large purchase by prepaying - I could put a $gazzilion in and I'd still max out at $1500 per month - the suggestion made to me was - to buy something worth $3000, first send $1500 from the credit card, then pay off the debt that evening, and make a 2nd payment of $1500 the next day - when asked why my limit couldn't be boosted by pre-paying when I wanted to make a larger purchase, I was told it was too much hassle - I said I'd believe that if it was some little gnome wearing pince nez glasses huddled in a dark corner bent over giant ledgers working by the light of a coal oil lamp, but you guys just click a button - at least I got a laugh out of him - lol

Therein lies the problem:
Conflicting gnome-enclature...
(The pince-nes oculars was a nice visual touch, btw [emoji106])

Might have better luck w/ a bank-issued debit card backed by your checking account. Still probably a max purchase amount regardless of how much you've got, but I think with a debit card those are easy to get temporarily waived if you tell them ahead of time what, where, & when you need.

I'm going to talk to a bank this week to talk to them about a prepay credit card they are offering - I can transfer money to the account, then use the cc to pay online, or what ever - it's more of a card that I can transfer money with than it is a credit card - not quite as convenient as the master card I had, but a lot better than the VISA I have now - they are more concerned about themselves than trying to help their customers

these buses sold from $3500 to $6500 at the Edmonton sale - 3 of them have appeared on line for sale at $8500 to just shy of $13,000

I don't think I'd fool with any kind of a credit card at these big time auctions. Most will now only let you use a credit card to hold a space in the auction--usually $50-$100 max to cover their costs if the bidder fails to complete the purchase.

I purchased a Chevy Tahoe 4x4 from a local County fire dept and Public Surplus auction. The bids ended on Christmas Eve and payment with a wire transfer was due in 3 days. Of course neither the banks nor the County offices were open during that period of time so I received numerous bits of hate mail from the auction threatening to cancel my purchase. I really wanted the Tahoe so I remained civil and finally the India based Indian understood what happens here during the holidays and agreed to let me wire transfer payment after New Years especially because I was dry camping in Death Valley for the holidays etc.

Just to add a bit more complication to the wire transfer process, if your transfer is greater than $9,000 you will be treated like a criminal laundering money and forced to fill out a bunch of "I'm not a crook" paperwork which adds to the time it takes to finish the transfer The cost of the transfer is small and once you have established a working relationship with a wire transfer entity the whole process seems to go pretty smoothly.. Take the time to become familiar with the process well before you bid in an auction and you'll find it works as smoothly as any type of credit card. If you ultimately plan to finance some of the purchase be sure to figure that out with the lender ahead of time.

I was pretty much all geared up for that, but my card not going through made it so I couldn't even bid
