Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Looks like you guys are doing some good work here. Putting in a door is not the easiest thing you'll ever do! I like the door you picked out. The radius corners on it are nice.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Jake, yeah i considered that as going from the tear down phase to the build phase! I think the hardest part so far in doing the door has been cutting all the rivets out from above the window to remove the upper cross brace. What a pain in the butt... Tomorrow i cut the upper arch for the door and then i will mount it so we can determine what we want to do with the steps.
Thanks for the encouragement guys!!! love working outside in the winter!!! Not lol but if i want to use it this year i got to keep in high gear....

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Update from today, ordered the metal for the steps so will put them in and frame the bottom of the door this weekend.
Yeah were lucky not much snow here now. Being so close to lake Ontario it bypasses us and drops it more north!
Woods there so i don't forget and fall through the floor lol

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Update from the last couple days.
Fixed some more of the floor. It was a little bubbly behind the rear wheel wells. I cut out the rot and re sheet metaled it.
Using 3/4 ply wood - 18 gauge sheet metal - bonding glue - 1" pink foam we made the window skins.
And here it is done. We painted them white because the bus will be white in the next few months.
Some of the flooring is done too

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Love the window skins. I have a BB and was planing to try a traditional window skin while dealing with the eye brow's but these look great. I will be getting rid of all of the windows and putting RV windows in so some of the structer will need to change in a few places.
Do you have any more details on these? Maybe it will be self explainatory when I take my windows out. Did you use the same screws to hold the blanks that used to hold with windows?
Thanks
Tony

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Ha ha ..... Yup ers Señor Stewart .. We are under a storm warning tonight again !. Niles is just movin along & to rub it in I've been told was wearing shorts today .
No idea when we will be able to get our Skoolie made for hobbits home .. Wife says those that wait will be Rewarded But she been telling me that for 21 years on Thursday lol !!!!! .
We have decided on not lowering our roof when we start the build , we will just need to work around the openness the best we can

HA! Yes, the "little house" is closer, but a little too cozy
Anywho...looking forward to seeing what you do with the steps, Niles!

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Jake that sucks having to walk in that much snow. Although i don't have as much snow i am working outside freezing my butt off now putting the stairs in for the side door.
Its nice and cozy when i have the heater on inside the bus and all the doors closed
Thanks everyone for the compliments!
So i have still been busy working away.
Pulled the door back out and built the frame around the lower section and around the cut out flooring to attach the stairs too. its tied into the floor cross supports and is super strong and should not fall off "ever" lol.
Doing the math before i start cutting up the pieces for the stairs... ohhhh i hate math!!!
Both sides of the setups created
I have a few more side to side bars in but its ready for installation tomorrow. After this is in then i will work on sheet metal to enclose the stairs.
