Re: Project Niles Skoolie
If the welds are good and you get proper penetration the welds should be able to hold 20 x an average persons weight. There is no flex at all in them (i am 300 pounds) and it would take movement to crack a weld. Once the sheet metal is in then it will truly lock everything in place. I put my buggy through way worse conditions then the bus will and never had an issue with a weld hehe.

Nice work! The stairs look great, you must be excited with all the progress! Following these builds has me looking forward to being our bus... And nervous about everything that will need to be done!

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Nice work,
Now is a good time to cut insulation foam to sandwich in between the steps and risers. Also insulate the sides of the stairs as well. This is a huge heat suck area on your rig now and it will cut down on road noise too. I did this after I had installed the sheet metal steps. So i had to lay on my back and measure, crawl out and cut foam plus spill my beer. Your at a good point to fit it all ahead of time. Thus you won't spill any of your beer, a very important design setback...

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
radio looks good, I have my sirius radio , and 12volt power ports, on 3 way switches, so I can run my radio on the house battery, then flip the switch to run off the bus , key has to be on, this way I can never kill the start battery , I also wired the factory inside lights (down the center) that way as well, nice when boondocking

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Took the doors off and removed the old stairs. Half the bolts in the stairs came out no problem the other half i had to cut the heads off of them. Then I pulled out the trusty sledge and slammed it till it popped out the bottom. Took about 5 good swings!
My Son and i boarded it up to keep out the critters because i took a few day off to relax!
Should be back at it Saturday.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
I would have cut a half moon shape in that temp door just to make the neighbors ask why. You are doing a great job and you are very lucky to have helpers. When the floor goes in and you look at all that work that has been done, only those here can understand the madness of it all. Just think, now you can change the last set of floor plans you had, and then change them again...I'ts nice having the ability to do so.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
April 2 Update:
Cleaned the rest of the floor, repaired some small holes and primed and painted floor.
Framed in the supports for the new floor and welded them all in
Sheet metal and seam sealed the top. Next steps will be to finish plywood and the new doghouse mount.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Thanks! I absolutely dislike welding so close to the fuel tank. I had done a lot of research about the flammability of diesel compared to gasoline and felt a little better knowing that it takes a lot to ignite it. Sooooo glad that's done!
Decided to painted it tonight.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Moving right along now, kind of working on a few things at the same time.
1) finished the floor in the driver \ passenger area and now building the seat bases
2) Purchased the furniture for the front. we spent the last 2 months shopping playing with layouts etc and came up with this. Sofa couch that's day bed style and a low profile desk with 2 ottomans under the desks to use with the couch or as desk seating. Really happy how it turned out... Its starting to feel like its coming together.
Wainscoting the side walls today and laying laminate flooring so should have another update in the next day or 2
