Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Thanks everyone,
Yep its 1/2inch cedar. I used 1x.5" strapping and created 4 horizontal runs then we notched the 1/2 cedar where the runner is where the old bus seats attached to the wall. That way it lets the wainscoting sit flat on the strapping and saves us 2 full inches in width. That doesn't seam like a lot until you only have 90.5" to work with lol.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
You have that classic RV look in there. I mean that in a good way, as once-upon-a-time RVs aimed for the look of a vacation cabin by the lake. You got that look.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
GB we bought the floor tack stuff as it just prevents the floor from moving but when we did the test fit and trim it was such a tight fit there is no where it can move so we left it free floating. One thing i love about this bus is that everything is so square a good sign it was built well from bluebird.
Thanks bus-bro, I am going for the mobile cottage look. I don't want it to look like i threw in a bunch of extra stuff i had around the house. Not that there is anything wrong with it its just not us. Clean, open, cottage is my rules for this build

Great job your doing. Looks really good.
Good to see your kids helping. My kids loved the bus conversion.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Its been raining a lot the last 2 weeks here so its made it hard to do much work on the window installation.
I made seat mounts i will use for now until i can find some reasonable swivel bases.
Re made the base to the doghouse. The old one was pretty rusty.
Finally today the rain stopped and was sunny! Got lots done but did take a good wrap to the head when my dad dropped the old door frame on me when i was looking.
Going to do all the outside sheet metal work this weekend. I am looking for forward to seeing what it looks like all sealed up....

The inside of your bus is looking very nice. I love the chest of drawers that you turned into a kitchen cabinet.

I'm with Accordian - that is a great idea to convert a chest of drawers to a kitchen cabinet. Cool sink too!

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Moving along!! Yeah, the dresser converted to kitchen cabinets looks great. Seat mounts look great as well. Nice work! I love the t&g cedar. Some parts remind me of my bus. As for welding...yup, people used to question me welding my suspension links, etc..., on my jeep, and driving it on the street, until I showed them videos of my jeep going airborne

Makes me think of how creative people can be when they allow themselves to think outside the box. Yours is a very clean looking conversion. Keep up the good work and it'll soon be complete!

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
LOVELY conversion and seemed to be done so quickly. (Can't believe I've had my bus since October) You had on your plan the bedroom in the back and closets like I put on my drawings but I like the slanted closet fronts. I was concerned about moving my mattress around, this might solve that problem. (making fold up center to the bed to be able to still utilize the back door was my plan).
Also, I'll have to say again... I envy people that can weld. I know I'll have to probably hire out some welding for certain things like tank frames etc, but plan on doing most of the rest myself *pouts* no welding skills.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Welding isn't THAT hard to get into. I bought a cheap (under $300) wire feed welder and just started messing around. A self darkening helmet certainly helps the learning curve as you aren't constantly flipping the helmet up to see where you are, lol... It's all about speed and temp. Don't just assume you don't have the skills. You might surprise yourself! I would be lost without my welder and grinder.

Jake is right, stuff like that takes practice.. and determination! Our grandparents just got a similar welder, so we're going to start experimenting shortly!

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Been awhile since i updated. Herniated a disk in my lower back and that basically downed me for a month and a half. Now I am somewhat back in full force.
Whats been completed:
- Shore power Electrical system installed
- Power panel (30 amp in, breakers and 12 volt converter)
- Used heavy extension cord with flush mounted outlets
- Wired 2 12volt fuse blocks (one in the front by the drivers area and one mid way on passengers side.
- Finished skinning the passenger old door location.
- Installed 2 new roof vents (one in bedroom, one in living room)
- Installed 2 12" MTX Thunder subs
- Installed amp behind kitchen cabinets
- Framed in and mounted in 2 way fridge, wired 12 volt to the fridge aswell.
- New brake lines to the drivers front
- Cleaned and painted front bumper
- Bed area framed in and bed set in place
- My Dad cut his baby finger off with table saw working on the bus (I even told him to be careful)!!
I will update with some photos next.
Chris
