Re: Project Niles Skoolie
One option that would look good would be silver. It wouldn't be the same kind of spash of color like the red, but it would certainly blend well with the white and black.

It's red? I thought it was maroon. The colour on my tablet must be off.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
I think the red needs something inside the stripe to set it off. Lettering or Celtic knots or something. Maybe a nice quotation that you like.
White lettering or design with black drop shadows on the red would look nice and tie it all together.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Thanks guys, Well i can call August 16th her birthday because today she officially became a registered RV / Motorhome. Went into the DMV (Service Ontario) and had the ownership converted. It was rather painless thank god. Now onto safety and insurance....
Okay so back to the paint... here is what the final looks like.
I will definitely be adding some vinyl as well as "Nile's Skoolie" up top where it used to say school bus. Here is the first sticker...

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Ah yes, the silver does look good! I especially like the grill much better with the silver. I've been thinking about doing that on my bus, and now I'm convinced it's the way to go.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
So finally finished the sheet metal of the stairs and welded up some things i missed when building the framing for them in the winter... Now i just have to make some nicely stained wood tops for the steps with some grip tape to prevent slipping.
My protection bunker.... I was not getting weld splatter on my nice flooring hell or high water
Sheet in
And done...

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
The stairs look great. Which sheet gauge did you pick for the job? It looks like maybe 1" 14 ga square tube for the frame..?

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Thanks!!
Family Wagon, I used 18 gauge sheet metal with 1"x1" - 1/8th wall square tube. In gauge thickness that's 11gauge i believe. I wanted the frame strong enough to take the force of a blown tire or released belt from the tire.
WM I have not seen a lot of people do it and for our design it made more sense for these reasons - Side by side driver and passenger, i don't want to have to walk over people sleeping in the front on the bed couch in the morning to get out of the bus. I was lucky enough to see it mostly done on kimberlinks build ( viewtopic.php?f=9&t=27627)

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
I'm logging this away for a future thing to think about. If I sacrificed some counter space, I could relocate as well, gain a co-pilot chair and eliminate walking on top of the beds when they are both folded out. Same reasons as you. Hmmmm....

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Jazty, yes I did for mine.
I talked to a lot insurance people before i actually ended up approaching my own company i am currently with for my truck and house.
Basically this is what i was told and learned in the process.
1) It's way easier to insure if you have multiple things with that company.
2) Don't use the word "School"!! I went in and had my ownership converted to recreational vehicle / passenger vehicle instead of commercial and told them it was an "RV" which is what it was registered as. When she asked me the body style i said it was a "bus" body...
3) Using a broker that deals with classic cars or specialized insurance is the way to go if you have no luck with your own company.
Hope that helps!
So i have spent the last few days and converted all the lights on the outside to LED. I was lucky to find the exact size round lights on sale at Princess Auto. It's by far been the easiest install on bus so far.
Here is the old beside the new:
All of the main ones done.. Still have to do reverse lights and lower tails / turns... I am not sure why you need the lower ones as it just duplicates the uppers. Maybe incase the uppers fail...
