Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Diesel Dan its a 12,000 BTU. It's supposed to do about 340 square feet (bus is roughly 200+ish) it does struggle to cool it off on really hot days. It may be a bit easier with the door now in. We are going cut a hole in the floor and lower it into a sheet metal box and vent it below the bus so its out of site. Its also a dehumidifier so that should help get the moisture out because it is humid here in the summer and damp in the fall/winter. We wanted to conserve head room because my wife and i are both over 6foot

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Went shopping today and got the tv - 32inch LED ultra thin... I wasn't planning on mounting where it got mounted but just happened to have one of those hmmmm i wonder if it would fit there.... and loved it... its out of the way and allows us to run our upper cupboards on the drivers side much farther down creating more storage. I had seen a few people on here put them there too.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Not to change the subject too much, but I have a pet peeve about these TV manufacturers nowadays labeling their sets as LED HDTVs. I hope everyone realizes the picture is not LEDs, but an LCD just like every other non-plasma flat screen TV made for less than $15,000. The backlighting is LEDs, and for some reason the manufacturers have decided that people will buy a new TV if they think it has a display made of LEDs. It does not.
Got that off my chest.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
And a worthwhile pet peeve it is! I bought an ity bity 19"
LED" TV/DVD for my ity bity bus and was dismayed to see that the owners manual had a bunch of "correction" stickers all over it. It seems that where ever the word LCD appeared, the manufacturer just pasted a LED sticker over it! Gotta love that!
A million years ago and in a different life I used to kill time waiting for the next jet out of Burbank Ca (to go twist up some wrong doer) wandering the aisles of a place called Fry's Electronics (now universe wide I expect) looking at all sorts of stuff. Fry's original Burbank location had a movieola motiff made up of old sci-fi movie sets and was just fun to look at. Consequently I have a soft spot for their local branch store--that's not to say I've been spared being ripped off--I just feel better about it.
I don't have an expectation of longevity when it comes to my LCD?LED? purchase but I have laughed my Arse off warching "The Long Long Trailer" over and over again. Ya pays Ya money and Ya takes Ya chances! Jack

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Well, if you're gonna be picky about the backlight source.. The LED backlit are superior to the older CCFL fluorescent (or can be, depending on implementation) because the backlight can be selectively shut off in regions that are displaying black, or dimmed in regions that are showing dark colors. That improves the contrast even though the image source is the same LCD panel as always. I don't have data on it, but I'd guess the LED backlight is likely to give brighter illumination than the CCFL did too.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
All true, but none of that makes the advertising any more accurate; it's still an LCD TV.
Now back to regularly scheduled programming....

The only reason i bought this one was it was 1" thick and super light (19 pounds i think). The quality is really good. I tell you its been awesome having it in there watching TV while i am working away on the bus. Box set starwars episode 4, done the first 3 yesterday hehe.

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Thanks Gus! I love my bus as we all do here!!! hehe
Spent a lot of time pulling cable all day today (re run speaker wires, hdmi cable for tv, cb power cable, TV Power cable) made it all hidden so you can't see any wiring. My goal has been to have it nice and neat as possible. Like my mobile cottage basically. My dad built the 2 bedroom walls and i will post a few photos of them tomorrow.
Today i decided i am going to do a split 55Gl drum for my grey and black water tanks. Its different and i love fabricating and they fit nice and tight under the back of the bus. I picked up 2 heavy thickness ones for 10 bucks each. ( http://www.skoolieowners.com/skoolie-co ... tanks.html) here is the one i am going to base this off of. Has anyone else done this???

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Well its been awhile since i have posted, mostly because there hasn't been anything to update other than trying to move my bus when we had the big ice storm and i didn't want the tree to fall on it. As most of the people following my build knew i hurt my back March ish 2013 and I kind of powered through that summer eating perqs like candy to be able to move, going to so many DR's appointments trying to find out the issue. Anyway long story short once winter hit I basically was in bed unable to move for months. Finally i got put on something to help my pain been slowly able to function again. As of today i am mostly mobile again and starting to get back at the bus. It was extremely hard as i am a very active guy and to be shut down like that was very hard on my soul....
Some good things happened though, i sold my buggy and bought a slightly smaller road worthy Rubicon Jeep and in doing so wanted proper insurance on it because its lifted and so on. Insurance for these kind of things in ontario sucks and the second you tell them mod they won't look at you. I found a company who would and i moved my truck over to them and they put my jeep on the policy fully covered with lift and all. After talking to the lady i asked about hey in a few months would you be interested in taking on my bus too. Every place i called would not even look at the bus at all. She said yes!!!! and said that she actually had one when she was younger so i managed to find a company to insure my bus too after the safety is done in the next few weeks! this is a huge load of my back lol
So where i left off last was i had purchased 2 - 45 gal drums for 10 bucks which i am welding end to end then splitting them like a half moons. Plating the open side so they fit nice and tight up to the under side of the bus and don't hang down really low if i used them un cut. I will take photos of this process because i expect to make 2 45 gal black and grey tanks for under $100.00 which should last quite a few years if maintained.
Tank Pics:
New Jeep:
Installing a 1980 CJ7 Flip down tailgate on it:
Will update end of weekend as i should have the tanks welded and split by then
Thanks
Chris & Kat

Re: Project Niles Skoolie
Would you care to share the name of the insurance company? I took insurance off of my bus last fall, but will be insuring it again in the next couple months. I was previously with RSA Group (formerly Royal and Sun Alliance) through a local broker, but it was gosh danged expensive. It'd be nice to compare insurance companies that will actually give you a quote instead of a bunch of discouraging "NO!"s.
