Question :
I'd like to get some opinions about whether or not welding a microbus to the top of a school bus is a good or bad idea and perhaps a little about the process if anyone on here has done it

I think its a bad idea.
VW's are pretty valuable these days and adding all that weight up high doesn't sound like a great idea to me. Thats my 2 cents

What about taking the roof shell from a junkyard conversion van and putting it up top? Obviously it's a non-linear shape so getting it to fit would be difficult but you'd get at least a foot of additional space.

Enjoyed the video but definitely need to plot that RR bridge on my GPS.
Meanwhile...VW's of all shapes & sizes have long been a staple of the Hippie crowd's approach to bus conversions. But, as noted, the driver certainly needs to maintain an awareness of both the height & center of gravity of such units.

I'd encourage the OP to go for it. At the worst, or is it the best we'd get a great new video.

Properly done, a roof raise is easier, safer, and more practical.
But I do realize that people have dreams and aspirations that dont involve ease, safety, or practicality...
Different strokes for different folks. Seems like a waste to me though.
