RE300

Well, I'll go ahead and post even though it's gonna be a couple of years before I actually start converting. I've been a long time school bus driver but have just become a school bus contractor which means I got to buy my own bus! I went ahead and got one that's bigger than what I need for my route because the plan is after it's paid off I'll buy another bus for the route and keep this one to convert. I intend to maintain and upgrade it with an eye toward converting...

It's been 7 years since I last posted on here. Time flies. I sold the bus I had (even made a profit!) after our California trip. The children have fond memories of the trip and want to go traveling with us when we convert this one. We'll see. We've adopted two younger children so I hope we can build the same kind of memories that our older children have!

The new (2002) bus:

Details: 78k miles, low hours; 84 passenger (actually 81 since there's no seat at the emergency exit); DT466E (250HP) that's in process of inframe rebuild; new turbo; Allison 3060 trans; rear air ride; webasto heater; pretty much all the bells and whistles including air ride driver's seat, heated mirrors, air door, acoustic ceiling, etc. Other than some rust under the stepwell it's in primo condition.

Very Nice bus!
Excellent choice, I'm a fan of Internationals.

Re: RE300

Thanks for the nice comments. Bought the bus at Midwest Transit in Indiana. They treated me right. Concerning the bus on eBay (the one that sold in Sept.)... I was the losing bid on one in Cleveland OH. Contacted the school that sold it on CL for, wait for it... $1000. It sold on eBay for considerably more than that. It even had the DT530 and didn't have any rust issues. According to the private school principal they went with a contractor this year so they were just trying to get rid of it. Oh well. At least with a dealership there's some recourse even if it comes "as is". I think I ended up with a nicer bus, however. It looked like there was some front end damage on that one.

And yes, I'm partial to International. I've driven them all- flatnose, conventional, Freightliner, Ward, Amtrans, BB, Thomas, including brand new ones. Haven't driven a Crown though. Used to own an Eagle, have driven a GMC Buffalo and MCI's. What I like about the IH is they're no nonsense and parts are pretty reasonable $.

Re: RE300

Midwest Transit is a good outfit. I would guess you most likely dealt with Rick Hanson. I bought fifteen buses from him this last year.

If you send me your e-mail address and VIN I can get you a build sheet for your bus.

Good luck!

Re: RE300

It was Tom Buehle at the dealership right above Indianapolis. And yes, I'll give you my email and VIN number!

No on the Chevy.

I would probably start in the introduction area and tell a little about yourself and the bus you got before digging up a post from 8 years ago to ask a question on.
