I have a Int'l Shortie, going to start on cutting for a rear deck, or patio if you will, next week. Making it quite smaller than the decks I've seen on long buses. I was wondering if anyone could be me on the right page for some help/instruction in this? Thanks!
I didn't make this. It was on my bus when I bought it. I love it like a fat kid loves cake. They welded rails to the frame and used the original bumper, filled in the rest with steel diamond plate and added steps. The only problem has been scraping the steps a few times.
I have an Intl.shortie as well and I have wanted to put a small rear deck on for a while. Take some pics and post them if you can. I would like to see exactly how people attach these things. I can make the deck, but I would like to use the bumper and add steps like the picture above.
If you want a short deck, why not have a class IV hitch welded onto the back of your bus, and make a deck that plugs into that? It could even attach to the rear bumper for more stability. You could probably haul 1,000 pounds on it. Then, you can remove it if you want to tow something. I'm going to build a small deck on the back of my bus eventually that will hold my two Honda EU2000i generators while I go down the road.
That's exactly what I want to do!! I want to put my two hondas out there and maybe attach a ladder to the bus and build a roof rack. You think that single receiver hitch will do the trick?
Well if all you want to do is put your Honda generators back there, then just get a hitch welded on and buy one of those platforms that plugs into the hitch! The generators are only around 50 pounds each. A class IV hitch can hold at least 1,000 pounds of tongue weight if I remember right.
