Hobart's (Miller's "value" line) have always been good machines but the new generation is much better than just a few years ago. The close up photo of the drive shows one of their major improvements...all steel drive wheel system. They used to be plastic which was the main thing that put them just below their Miller counterparts. Nowadays, they are pretty much the same except for a couple of bells & whistles...and price.
Excellent buy.
(But I still love my two Miller 140's)

I looked at the Miller 141 at Airgas, but at $700+ I just couldn't justify spending the extra money. You're right about the drive wheels aren't plastic. I checked before I bought one!

Nice detailed pics on the interior construction of your bus. It's great being able to see the various ways different manufactures make their body's.

Thanks, nat.
I wish I took more pics in general. I tend to be one of those folks who doesn't ever take pictures of anything I do. This is the most I've ever put of my real life on the web.
You certainly have some great pics. I especially like the heavy rust repair pics. Every prospective bus shopper should see those kinds of images.

And take lots of pix as you tear things down. They make it a bit easier to figure out how things are supposed to go back together...a year or so later.
I know I wish I had taken more early on.

Ditto Tango....I can't tell ya how many times I have dissected something without taking any notes or pictures only to find out many many moons later after I had finally found the part I needed that I don't have a clue what to do with the bag of parts I now have.

I could not agree more.
That's also exactly why I shared them.
The smallest little thing on the outside was almost a project stopper.

Ditto on that!! I'm the same way. Get too "into" a project to take time to photograph. Trying to break that habit.

There was LOTS of rust under about 60% of the tar, maybe 75%.
It gets a bit gooey in the higher temps. It seems to trap condensation and moisture so it really had to go. I'm a bit of a perfectionist at times.
I figure I might as well do any work I'm able if it needs doing at all. I don't mind doing it all the hard way. I make VERY little money so I have lots of time to get everything "right".
Re the VW- Its 12v. Mostly original, I bought it when i was 15 and working part time.
Its 88' Porsche Guards Red and Grand Prix White. PPG.
The interior is hand stitched "oatmeal" tweed.
Lots of Gene Berg parts and stuff. I basically spent every penny I made from 15-18.

Ha! for me it was around 20k.
The car is amazing, just really dusty and getting a new front beam once the garage is done.
Spent the day taking the top of my 4.3 GMC Vortec apart. Damned intake manifold gasket. quite a job. Saved a cool grand doing it myself though. Hope to have it put back together and hauling junk in a couple days.

Hey EastCoast, not only do we live somewhat close to each other (I'm just north of Tampa) but I'm also big into VW's. I wish I had the 66 beetle I had in high school, but unfortunately sold it right after school. I now have a 72 standard beetle that I want to build into a retro 80's/90's looker, we have a 78 Westy for camping at VW shows, and a rail buggy. In fact, I'm strongly considering a skoolie with a ramp in the back to tow our buggy to Ocala for riding weekends.

Nice!
Well- we should get together sometime.
I live in Eustis and my bus is fifteen minutes away in Sorrento/Apopka.
I have a lot of parts to track down to complete the VW. Many parts have been lost in the decade or so its been sitting.
I need a master cyl, the mounting hardware for it, I have to figure out how to get the tie rods figured out...
Someone stole my wheels (empi 5 spokes polished) and some other stuff.
The damned shift linkage needs to be re-brazed to the tunnel and I need to find a fuel tank for it.

I'm familiar with Eustis. We go through there every year on our way to our favorite VW show (No Dough VW Show in Port Orange). We also have a buggy friend that lives in Eustis. We also go that way to the Ocala Forest, over 50 to 19, then up to Altoona where we camp.
If your bus is in camping shape by November, you can come over and park in our yard for Bug Jam in Dade City. I'm sure you can find your parts there.

Jeez- GM sure didn't make some of the stuff on this truck very much fun to fix.
This intake manifold job has been pretty laborious. I've got about 8 hours in it. Putting it all back together today. Just got the distributor back on and the back side of the engine all hooked back up.
Knuckles busted multiple times. Too hot to enjoy beer...

I had a long-bed version of that a while back. 390 gasser. 5 mpg... Sold it to a farmer six moths after getting it running and street legal. Made a bit of money too.....
