Dave is really a SUPER guy.
The bus is nearly ready now. We went over to HF and picked up another 20t bottle jack, a BUNCH of clamps, a pack of 1/4" drill bits and some other boring goodies.
Initial raise and rib extensions should be done by tomorrow or saturday.
Probably Saturday.

The windows removal and all the work done since you saw it this weekend was mostly done entirely by Dave. That guy doesn't waste any time!
Yep. Tomorrow we'll drive it next door, support it underneath and level it as best we can, and then add the all thread and spacer/collars and nuts.
Then its actually ready, I reckon.
By the time all that gets done, we may as well shoot for Saturday to actually cut it and lift it.
Plus we need to mess around a bit with the welder, its BRAND NEW and we are gonna play around with it a bit before welding on the bus.

weather forecasts have backed from endless rain saturday to a 40/50% chance in the afternoon... that looks promising!

I'll bet Chris can weld better than me!
Basic welding is simple, imo. I'm not really even good at it, but I've welded professionally some. All I did was pretty up some ugly welds done by robotic welders.
Chris you would have LOVED to check out the CNC robot welding dept I worked in.

I'll look at Ryobi. If their stuff is less than 50% more than the HF (like can I get a drill, a flashlight, a battery, and a charger for $30 vs $20) and the batteries interchange, that's a win and I could see standardizing on that. Right now I literally cannot tell which battery fits which tool and which charger. They're all the same except for some alignment tooth that's been arbitrarily moved 1mm or whatever.

Home depot has deals all the time for a set: drill, circular saw, sawzall type tool, and flashlight for 199 with a charger and 2 batteries.
I then bought a set with an impact driver and drill for 99 with 2 batteries and a charger.
And over the last year needed a hammer drill- 99 with 2 batts and a charger.
They aren't as inexpensive as HF, but all the batts work with all the tools.
And I can now buy just the tool I want with no battery for under 40

IF I ever had to buy another welder I'd be going for a Miller.
They ARE the best.
But my lil Hobart should be plenty good for what I bought it for.

Robots are really only for higher volume, repetitious work. LONG welds. We had one that did a weld on the outer lip of some giant augers. It would weld for an hour or two straight! I basically just kept them running, inspected the welds, and patched any areas the robots botched a bit. Mostly just watched for porosity.
THe heat they put off is astounding. You'd melt, man!

I can only imagine the heat with a big rig like that.. I just thinking about the heat fromn a little arc of a household style 110 volt mains welder let alone that.. its all radiant heat.. straight to heat absorbing objects / people.. plus the heat that ends up in the metal after its welded... itd Nice for warmin up the warehouse in the winter up north! even with the ventilation in use. not so nice for central florida in July

In FL no one cares about safety, either, so the exhaust fumes weren't vented. They just sorta poured out everywhere.
The air quality is why I no longer work there.
They run robots and plasmas with NO exhausts. The ones that do have exhausts are fake, and they bypass the filters and loop it right out into the shop.
They even dump the plasma dust that collects in the bins right out by the parking lot, near a marsh. Plasma dust is TERRIBLE for you. Its even got hexavalent chromium 6 in it!
FL is NOT a good place to work in manufacturing.

Hahaha. My friend (a welder) always says "Miller for drinking, Lincoln for welding"
I don't know that I could have a preference... I stink!
