No sir, just Maryland summer weeds growing in my neighbors yard haha. I took em down with a sickle since this photo.

So I had to put a new turbo on while doing this. STILL IN PROGRESS. When changing the radiator I had to cut the old trans cooler lines cause they were so rusted I couldn't get them. So I have converted to aluminum / stainless AN fittings (AN -12 for those who care) from Summit Racing. The turbo I got reman from CAT, it was $1,200 after the $760 core return. So $2500 into this "exhaust leak" (radiator price incl) that happened on the first long trip...yay. Hopefully it will be good for some time. The old turbo worked but had a ton of axial and radial shaft play so it was on its way out. Better get it while its ahead.

I am doing an idler pulley delete while doing this too. On these buses, the motors are designed for front engine use so they have a hub for the fan / clutch, which is doing nothing in this application. I am deleting this for that reason. They also have another idler for the A/C compressor that I don't have, so deleting that too. So I had to find a shorter belt, and am hoping the tensioner will work the same. The main reason for the delete is the idler bearings are bad and I see no reason to spend $200 each for 2 pulley assemblies that are effectively doing nothing.

I ordered some Shell Rotella Ultra ELC, better than CAT equivalent coolant. The CAT coolant is highly revered in the diesel world and supposedly this stuff is better. Also ordered a new coolant filter, and next on the list is a trans fluid / filter change. So just have to refill radiator, put belts on, valve adjustment, and put fan / clutch assy back on and we are golden. Hopefully.

Good grief! But keep hacking at it little by little. You'll get it.

Right now mines in the shop. The mech says it had been run on a dry cylindar and he was worried it has a scarred sleeve in it. So for 1 month now I have had to patiently wait for him to get to it. Dunno if I will rebuild or replace..........

This is terrible, I hope it fires right up for you. Seriously crossing my fingers. Be sure to let me know about the idler pulley bypass.

It did fire right up, thank you for your encouragement! I will post pics in a bit about the idler pulley bypass. Also belt types. It is not perfect yet as the belt still wobbles back and forth at idle but it made it 150 miles and a bunch of idling so far.

I got it from here: http://www.kellerheartt.com/Rotella-.../550024730.htm

Case of 6x 50/50 and 6x concentrate are the same price so that is kind of obvious which you'd get. Enough to make 12 gallons of coolant.

Also, here: http://www.amazon.com/Mobil-112810-S...delvac+allison is where I got Allison Trans Fluid, 4 gallons for $175. Stuff is PRICEY but I need to do a fluid / filter change soon.

So a couple of friends and I decided at the last possible second to go for a trip for a few days. We wanted to go somewhere close by A) so we know the bus isn't too far away from being towed if it breaks and B) because time before they went back to school was limited. So we packed up and decided on Shenandoah River State Park in Virginia, roughly 85 miles from my house. Pretty easy interstate drive most of the way. Bus ran like a champ, temp sat a LITTLE above 195* but not too far. That was up a steep long grade at highway speeds. We got there and the park was pretty nice, I got a space with electrical because my bus is not off-grid ready yet.

Sittin pretty. Park is very very clean. I think a little too clean. They clear cut a lot of the area where I think they should have left trees, shade is nice and trees are nice. Pretty good views too.

It did rain a lot of the time though.

Got a nice spider bite with track marks a few days before we left, and went to an Urgent Care where they gave me antibiotics.

Prepared a healthy meal,

And realized I forgot the propane hose for my coleman deal so we improvised.

Did about 11.5 mpg round trip. I will post pics of the mechanic bits tomorrow when it is light out. Thanks everyone for your support.

Seriously awesome. My jeep doesn't run that cool. I'm way excited for you.

How your plan going for off grid electrical? I just spent so much money on my system, not installed yet. But I can tell you that handybobsolar site is great and he also answered all of my emails to help me design the system. Just read his whole site first (twice).
