Re: Smitty's Bus
...one of the reasons I ask is because while it could be a valid and pointed question, it basicallly just undermines the whole spirit of "choice"(haha), and who really cares to go and try and point out things in subtle or non-subtle ways that are obviously to detract from someone's hard work? I suppose I could nit-pick a lot of the posts on here about their "choices" of this or that, as could many about my own personal "choices", but what's the point?
I use the spelling point (very subtly, mind you) as an example, because while some genuinely can't spell worth a hoot (doesn't necessarily detract from their ideas in the least), sometimes it's due to haste, or inebriation, or countless or counted other reasons. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that we should be considerate of our motives in everything we do- the "golden rule", so to speak...
O.K.- I'm off my soap box now.

Re: Smitty's Bus
Sorry... good point Smitty- guess I just let the whole thing of this "arky" fellow get to me. Asking questions is how we learn, and sometimes I guess I'm the dick when I think to myself " w.t.f. are they thinking ?" , when someone asks a question that doesn't sit well w/ me for whatever reason... My apologies to both you and crazycal for jumping in to conclusions. I think I'll change my handle to "bat-chit"...

Re: Smitty's Bus
While the DTA360 does have slightly less hp and torque than the DT466, it is still a great engine and will last forever. It might slow down a bit more than a larger engine in the mountains, but it'll still get there. FWIW, it's the same size as the venerable 5.9 cummins...

While previewing my reply, I just saw your post. I have since deleted my reply which wasn't pleasant. Matter is forgotten.

It is kind of funny you mention this. I was thinking of this exact idea for making an underbody storage box big enough to carry my generator. I suppose I could just make the storage box big enough to hold the generator and a pair of LP tanks. It would be under the bed anyways.

I'm just thinking in terms of the terrain on the west coast. I have been on hills climbing at very slow speeds, like 25MPH. I know the 360 is just as bulletproof as the 466.
Just so everyone understands my intentions, it was not to slam Smitty's bus in any way. I was just curious.

Re: Smitty's Bus
Holy crap Smitty!!! Take a couple days off! I havent been living on the message forums as much as when I first signed up. but I come back and read through occasionally and every time I do I'm 4 or 5 pages behind!! I can't keep up on reading as fast as your working!!!!!!
Its lookin great though.
And another note on the awning thing. I have a 17 footer that I'm gonna put on mine. I got rid of a spare awning roller tube that would have been perfect for your awning on the rear. Although, all you need is a regular roll out awning and cut the tube down to whatever length you want it to be and have the awning cut down to fit. If there are any scrap metal yards around, check those for campers. I've been keeping an eagle eye on the local one here waiting on someone to bring in a junk camper with an awning on it so I can buy the supporting arms for it. I've been designing one in my brain that would be made out of steel but I don't want to go that route because of the weight.

Hey Smitty, can you post pics of that fridge setup? Also the thermostat with the model number? Pretty please.

Re: Smitty's Bus
I've been in and out but haven't posted much. Last time I had to catch up on your thread I sat through I think 14 pages of reading about your build to get caught up. I haven't done much with my bus, just a new starter and thermostat and water pump. I had that stuff all apart once when I put the new bypass hoses on when I put on the new water pump. I messed with the thermostat and didnt put a new one in then. So I just put in a thermostat in later. I knew better and still have no reason or excuse why I didnt put a new one in when it was apart in the first place.

Re: Smitty's Bus
This is the picture that I wanted to see. So you plug the fridge into the back of the plug not the box with the dial. How odd. I guess the back of the plug must be on a switch from the box. Is the box small enough to mount it down by the compressor and just have the two cords come up to the outlet? Do you already have the fridge in the bus?

Re: Smitty's Bus
Those kill-a-watts are great. I bought one from the local hardware store on sale for about $20. Great investment. Thanks for the info on the fridge.

Re: Smitty's Bus
The stove is very cool. So the bottom door is for ash, the middle is for fuel and the top door is the oven? Can you put a skillet in the top? Did you use any gasket to make it airtight? Are you putting in a CO monitor?
I gotta admit that seeing your bus is what lit the fire to start working on the Man Cave again. I can't wait to see your bus when it's road-ready.

Re: Smitty's Bus
I've got a bread recipe for you to try in your oven. It's calls for using a dutch oven but it might work in your top oven. This bread is the BOMB! I make a couple of loaves a week and sometimes more to give away. It's so easy a caveman can make it.

Damn you, Smitty. I like your toilet design better than mine. Gonna have to redo mine or make additions for that cute sawdust bin.

Re: Smitty's Bus
DUDE, the bus is looking really cool. Is there a picture of the bus with the raised roof done. I don't remember seeing one. How close are you to finishing or at least road ready to take it out?

Re: Smitty's Bus
Not too long now!
When the spice rack goes up and there's canned goods in the pantry, it's looking ready to roll.
Hope you're holding up well through the wind down phase, and the tying of all the loose ends.
