Re: Smitty's Bus
Oh that done it, I'm hunting you down and forcing you with fresh baked food to make me cute little hotwater hose heater box thingy like the one you have.
Great idea, love it, making it!

So today I bought a 2 gallon poly sprayer, and an "add-on" flexible shower arm, cut the wand off the sprayer, cut the lower end off the shower hose connection, heated the hose to soften it, and slid the two together.
I went ahead and installed (for the winter) the piece on my shower arm that holds the new shower head in place, so it will be just like showering before but instead of using the shower faucets, I'll just squeeze the handle on the sprayer hose to allow the water to flow. Since I have about 7-8' total hose, I can now set the sprayer outside the shower stall, and have my space back. I will still be heating water on the stove, but since I've been using the wood stove most of the time, I can heat the water in a pan setting on top the wood stove, so I'm not using LP to heat water. If I want hotter water, I'll stick it on the cook stove for a few minutes since it's already pretty warm.
I'd considered spraying some spray foam to fill the space between the sprayer inside the bucket, but I think I'll take some left-over Refletix and tape it around the sprayer itself. I don't take long showers (like you can with 2 gallons of water), so I'm not overly concerned with the water cooling-off before my shower is finished.

hey smittty why don't you just coil some copper tubing around your stove pipe and plum it into your hot water lines? and put a y valve in so you can swich from the roof to the wood stove, sences wyou are using it for heat.

Thanks for the update on the solar shower Smitty. Seems like passive solar is not a viable option for freezing temps. I wonder what would happen if you were to put water in there in the morning and use it by nightfall, even if the temps were freezing during the day? Any idea if it would get up to a reasonably warm temperature for a shower?

Smitty built a DIY "Lower-Flow" low flow shower head! For those times when "Low Flow" isn't low enough!

Re: Smitty's Bus
Love the bus! Wish I could hire you to build me a similar model!!I was thinking of doing something similar to your back deck for propane tanks, but I dont have enough room to "cut" my bus. Any suggestions?

Re: Smitty's Bus
Looks great though. Another thing I would need to consider though is since mine is a shortie I dont need a special license to drive it. If I added an extension, it may be too long and I might need to get a different license. Im not sure, but I do know that PA does like to make things hard, so Im sure I'd have to jump through hoops

Depends on the state. In MOST states, there are exceptions. Recreational vehicles, regardless of length, air brakes and/or weight are exempt from the CDL requirement. That is why so many coach converters opt to title as "Recreational Vehicle", "House Truck", "Motor Home" or whatever your state's designation is. Insurance is often cheaper. Lots of folks insist that you need the CDL because of air brakes,or weight but if you look at the CDL exemptions for your state, it should have RV's listed (buried) in there somewhere. If you don't look for the exemption and only look at the standard list that tells you what type driver's license you need for what type vehicle, then you will (mistakenly) think that you need a CDL. UNLESS you are using your bus as a COMMERCIAL enterprise, then you should be titling as a private RV. If you are titled as COMMERCIAL, then you are required to keep log books, stop at weight stations, and are subject to any and all fines applicable to COMMERCIAL use.

Hope not.
