Well, unless you consider an amputation to be orthopedic. At our city hospital they do a lot of hips and knees and most people end up better than before, well, except for the 350 lb patients who couldn't hold their own weight even if their lives depended on it. For some reason they just can't seem to walk on a new hip or knee even after surgery...
Some docs have been known to do hip replacements on 85 year old patients who haven't walked in many years...not sure the point of that really...
