Re: Smitty's Bus

Smitty the bus is looking great, and even "homey"... for a man-cave that is.

Yeah, my biggest fear is that after putting so much time and money into the conversion, the bus would have some majorly expensive mechanical problem that normally would spell the end of a vehicle, but I would feel obligated to get it fixed because I've invested so much in the conversion. And I plan to invest relatively little compared to what some others have put into theirs.

Thanks for posting the update, and I'm sure you are looking forward to leaving the "concrete jungle" for more scenic environs. It's nice you are able to live in the bus for a while to work out any issues before hitting the road.

Smitty;

If you need a "pit stop" feel free to stop by if you're down our way near Houston. We have water and electric hook-ups.

Smitty;

There are plenty of back roads to the farm down here. I know, I drove Max on them.

I think WE are the jinx... or I am. David claims he never had vehicle trouble (except the one time his brother-in-law bought a lemon car) when making trips from FL to MI... and then he met me. I think we have had some sort of trouble with every trip we've ever taken, either weather (heavy down pouring rain for 200 miles) or mechanical. My Mom used to say our family could break a drought just by taking a trip (and we have had trips where a drought was broken while on the road).

The 30+ yo Class C make it out here just fine, no problems. The bus drank antifreeze and over heated the whole way out here... And we had the radiator rebuilt when we crossed into TX (nice folks at the shop). Oh and David had put the Jeep in park and forgot to tell anyone that he did it. So it was towed, in park, until it blew a front tire. That wasn't very far. They have WalMarts with tire shops at many of the exits on the interstate. When we left Socorro to winter over in TX, we didn't make it to the next exit before we had a flat (tire was sitting on a rock all summer). Coming back up here this spring, we popped an alternator belt on the Class C in a tiny little town (back roads). They had the part in stock! We thought we were going to have to spend the night in the Tractor supply Store parking lot (which is where I got the RV off the road at).

You don't want to travel with us. Something always seems to happen.

Smitty;

No idea (but then again, I'm focused on paramedic school - second highest average so far [but I suspect that might change in two weeks with the next exam I'm studying for ....])

ETA: So nobody sees anything that snuck-in under the radar? I'll give you a hint......it would have been from the paint job forward (until now)
