I am planning on using house windows in my bus. thinking I will just frame the wall for the window size. I've installed windows in houses before, but when I get close to doing them on the bus I will be giving you a shout.

House windows are designed with eves in mind. Since there are no eves on the roof of your bus, how are you going to prevent water seepage at the window flanges? I also didn't see any flashing. When it rains, water will run off the roof right onto the window flanges. I'm interested to know what your plan is to keep the windows watertight even with the flexing and bumping that the bus will go through. RV windows are designed to be mounted in such a way that there's a little give when the frame flexes. There is a weep hole at the bottom of the outside half of the frame to that even if water seeps in at the outer flange, it will "weep" out at the weep hole. One other point: I hope you bought windows with tempered glass that won't break into dangerous shards in the event of an accident.

But smitty, you never know when a car hits a ramp, jumps 7 feet in the air, and the corner of the bumper will catch a window just right, and sends a giant icicle shaped glass shard into your neck while driving. It could happen.

Just my two cents. I sold windows for about 4 years and the windows you buy now are all double paned so the chances of both windows breaking together is not great, unless pressure is aplied from either the sides or top to bottom. Having said that I have been trying to figure out a way to have outer shutters that I can close when I am on the road.

Just my humble opinion for what its worth.

Smitty sorry but I have to disagree when you say windows are not flashed. In most of the installs I have seen they were flashed if not all round, atleast at the bottom. Flashing goes on, then siding over it with trim.

I have to admit when I did my windows I didn't use flashing, just the foam spray.

Smitty the only reason I didn't use the flashing on my windows was because I was dealing with stucco and didn't want the fuss. I have seen plenty of windows installed without flashing, but have also seen plenty with. Guess its just a personal prefrence of the installer. I used the outside flanges when I did mine and just attached them to the frame, then used the foam to insulate inside the framed edges.

I have no doubt your windows will be fine. I was not questioning your workmanship Just pointing out that some people do flashing, and not everyone gets arrested for it.

One of the reasons I want to use regular windows is because it will be energy efficient, and reduce outside noise.

Guess I'll worry about getting them installed once I actually get the bus. That would make more sense.

By the way I know nothing about football, but I want the Saints to win because I guess they are the underdogs!
