Messed up my grinder so while waiting for a replacement I decided to pull off the bent front bumper and get ready to design and build a new one.

I removed the coolant air separator tank since I had long since disconnected it as it's part of the rear heater I'm not using. I also removed the step well skid plate since I'm eliminating the step well anyhow. At some point I'm wanting to relocate the air filter housing in such a way the filter is much easier to change. It and the battery will most likely end up where the step well used to be, only not so low to the ground. I got my measurements and sent the info off to my son who's going to put it into CAD for me so I can get the parts cut out from 3/16" boiler plate. The center section of this bumper will be a bit lower than the original with a skid plate between it and the crossmember just behind the radiator. This should protect the radiator much better than the old one. Some photo's of everything removed and a straight edge to get my measurements from as well as some chicken scratch drawings to get an idea of what I'm wanting to do.

Not sure if I can make it fit but I will try. This came off of some crazy military truck. The guberment price is about $20k. I didn't pay anywhere near that. It came off of something similar to this.

Trying to figure that out. I don't want it inside, inside but outside in an enclosure. Looking into making a pull out drawer in the rear bumper between the frame rails that would house this and serve as a work bench. Lots of possibilities.

How about a shallow cabnet bolted to the side of the bus.

You would still be under 8',6", and less width than the mirrors.

What about making a slide out drawer in between the frame rails. You would need to modify your rear bumper but you are capable.

Was thinking of doing the same thing on mine with the front bumper but will do some thing more like we had on the fire trucks. I figure a couple of tool/storage boxes on the sides and place to mount a trans cooler angled in the middle. Probably come out from the front about 16 inches. Funny your front end picks look like mine this past week, I replaced the fan clutch. Fun job, had to fab tool to hold fan assembly but did not take too much time. Keep up the great work you are an excellent fabricator and thank you for sharing.

Dang that bumper sure looks like a good place for your P.T.O.driven winch to live also.

You do all have P.T.O. winches? Right?

Like Nat said, add a box to side of bus maybe 8 inches deep, when you open it, it folds down and 2 chains hold each side up, tools mounted to bus and a work table?

I'm working on how to do that on the rear end since I will be blanking in the back door. The basement compartments will have doors that hinge up so I want to keep the sides as clear as I can.
