I keep meaning to make a video, then I realize I need a camera.
I'd really recommend you try tapping out the mandrels then shearing the rivets off with an air chisel.
I've removed at least 2000-3000 bus rivets now using various methods and this one is by far the quickest and least strenuous.

I haven't decided yet if I'm going to replace the door. I don't hate the original bi-fold door but I've seen other buses with home style doors and they look good to. It will probably be the last thing I do so I still have a while to decide

You mentioned last month that you were looking for a new home for the Proheat auxiliary heater. If it is still available I would like to talk to you about it.
Take care.

Absolutely Steve. I still have it in storage and you're welcome to it. I'll get some better pics of it and the connectors that go to it.

Alright Flyboy, getting some work done. Definitely take advantage of the good weather we've had. Gotta love South Texas weather. When it's not raining !!! I'm stuck inside( well I have the shop door open) building cabinets for BLUTO.

Building cabinets is a good thing. I was going to do the same and just found out yesterday that my daughter and her husband are doing a whole kitchen remodel in their house and they are giving me all the old cabinets and granite countertops. Major score. I can't wait to see what they will look like in my bus.

EC: is your door electric? or is it a manual handle?
Flyboy: those ProHeats in my opinion are nicer than the Webasto's.. and pretty bulletproff too. im surprised you wouldnt want it for cabin heat when your bus is parked camping... you can use any fan-coil with those.. doesnt have ot be a bus heater...

Its air-operated by a switch. Pretty cool. It works fine.
Weren't you just saying you were looking for more "air accessories"?

Thanks for the input Christopher. It's kind of a two fold decision to get rid of it.
First I don't plan on being anywhere too cold and second the more old original stuff I can get rid of the better I feel in the long run.

Are you just doing the one layer of foam board or are you going to double it up?

My situation is probably a little different than others. I'm retired and plan on using my "mobile home" to move from one location to another every month. Therefore I went with 1/2" insulation on the ceiling since I will also be putting on elastomeric white paint with ceramic beads on the roof, either Hydrotech Bus Kote or Henrys Tropic Kool with the beads added. I then went with 3/4 " in the side walls.
Here is the route I plan to follow every year. It keeps you in 70 degree weather year round.

Crazy?, perhaps, but what's the point in having a "mobile home" if you're not willing to move it.......lol.

yeah I want to get rid of the ugly door handle across the dash... it used to bot bug me till I bought that bluebird with no handle ..and the much better Hurri-Hot heater on the right side..
so I want to yank the door handle, and then see if I can make a bluebird Hurri Hot dual fan heater (pre 1995 bird) fit in the carpenter which frees up a ton of dash and under-dash space so I can properly duct my dash A/C ..
the carpenter door mechanism is under the stairs.. but im thinking I can fab something up on the inside above the door for the actuator.

Ok I'll try that...right now actually. What am I using to tap out the mandrel? Nevermind, don't mind me...end of a long week...long year actually.
So I'm using a punch and already got a few done. On to the grinding....so far so good, thank you!!
To be cont'd...

My sentiments exactly on the moving to 70 degree weather. Its obvious you live in the Houston area. Hahaha. Only Houstonians understand that.

Flyboy... this is pretty much my road trip plan, as well! Except I'm going up to New England at the start of my trip in September 2017 to begin the trip with a "chase the leaves changing drive". Then it'll be all 70 degrees from there ;)

Sounds good Sandi. I'm definitely going to make a trip up to New England someday for a great lobster roll.
