Re: The Bamper - 1977 Chevy 54 pass

Found project5d.com to be very helpful in designing the layout of the bus.

This is what I'm thinking thus far.
The kitchen will be behind the drivers seat with the bunk beds in the rear and a dinette across from the kitchen.

For those of you with bathrooms what are the inside dimensions of the "room" ?

Re: The Bamper - 1977 Chevy 54 pass

Since I have a 34' bus and I'm single, my bathroom measurments may not be the same as your.

I plan to have a nice steam shower and a claw foot soaker tub.

My bathroom will be before my bedroom. One side sink and toilet, the other side the shower. The door to the toilet side will open and block off to use the shower. I will have a door to the bed room if I need more privacy. My bathroom will be the width of the bus x 4' - 5', havent decided yet.

Re: The Bamper - 1977 Chevy 54 pass

Well the wife didn't like the bus in the driveway so I wiggled it onto the dirt pad that I put in years ago in the event we ever got a camper.
I had planned on making the last section of the fence hinge out of the way as the opening is only a shade over 9' but didn't have time as it needed to be moved "now".
There is a nasty settp hill directly behind where I took the first picture and I managed to tear the rear step off while backing up and manuevering.

Looks good in the back yard eh??
Picture is through a screen, sorry for the lines ...

Posted all the bathroom dimensions here. Using the accordian folding doors gets them out of our way since we prefer keeping the bus open front to back for air flow of either heat or a/c during the day. We think the swing out doors take up too much room. We may push one of the accordian doors closer to the bedroom to include the clothes closet into the bathroom area to make a larger dressing room. It's a thing that we will figure out when the weather gets cooler and we start needing to heat up that area only.

Re: The Bamper - 1977 Chevy 54 pass

Scored big at the recycling center today ! !

Went looking for bed frames to use for various things around the bus and came home with a dandy cord.

6/3 8/1 that would be a 50 amp plug on the end as well I do believe. It's about a 20 footer which should be about perfect as we do a lot of MN State Parks and they are always pretty close to the parking pad.

Best part was the price. 12lbs @ $1.25/lb puts it at $15. Not too bad ! ! ! I purchased 100' of this same exact wire to use as a heavy extension cord around the farm (runs 7.5hp motors) and it was 3.15/ft plus ends. T'was a good day ! !

That is a good deal, but I'm not sure that's a 50-amp connector. My conversion came with a few cables and one of them is a 50A twist lock female-to-30A male adapter. This is the end that plugs into the 50-amp shore power socket behind the driver's door:

The other end of the adapter cord is like the cord you bought. To that I have connected another adapter that allows the use of a standard 115V extension cord. Lots of adapters for now, but I'm only running two chest freezers for the time being. It's nice to know I can plug into anything that comes up when I need shore power.

The previous owner also included a 50-amp shore power cable that is about 25 feet long. It's 6/4 wiring and it's a monster:

I noticed that as well... That sure does look like a 30A plug. Same as my bus.

EDIT: Nevermind...I think it might just be the angle of the pic...

the 30 amp cords have 3 wires so it must be camera angle...

Yep. You're right. 6/3 8/1 means four conductors. If I zoom in on the plug, I can barely make out three flat conductors and a ground.

Re: The Bamper - 1977 Chevy 54 pass

It's the camera angle.

The side of the cord reads "Mobile Home Power Cord 6/4 ga 40amp Service" We'll call it 50 and move on. I'll NEVER draw more than this thing can handle. Once 12k A/C and maybe a microwave at the same time MAX. I like being over built.

My wife and I treked to the camper mall today and pretended like we were interested in purchasing one to see some different floor plans first hand. Didn't like anything as a whole but I came away with a few good ideas.

The first is to make the bunk beds so something like this and possibly even put one over the dinette .... it pulls out towards you and ends up just about touching the top of the camper. Neat idea.

Secondly, gonna put in a dinette like this instead of a booth style. The wifey requested not to be photoed online so she's a big black square .... boring ..

Third and most interesting was a bed that folded up and a couch that was in it's place whilst folded ... seemed very inconvient but this 16' camper can sleep 6 and seat 6.

Re: The Bamper - 1977 Chevy 54 pass

Cool..make sure to over build the fold down bunks, shouldn't be a problem in a steel skoolie.
Our S&S was each rated at 125 lbs...even that was scary sence they were above use

Make sure you can hang off it and you'll be cool

Oh and Lisa said "wifey" "get over it if your hubbie is a picture whore, like mine"

Got everything out but the heater/hoses and bed frames. It's all sitting in there loose but still needs to find it's way out.

See that plywood seat covered with 1" of foam Thomas tried to pass off as a drivers seat in that photo up there ^^^^^ ??
Well it's going to get replaced with this bad boy.

Our "bathroom is the width of the bus by 32" (shower is 32x32). We put the shower on one side and the toilet sink on the other. Our "toilet room" is only 31"x32" if the door is closed on that room but if it's closed in on the hallway it'll be bigger. Tight space but we need the room elsewhere.

Re: The Bamper - 1977 Chevy 54 pass

I'm thinking we're going to do a small bathroom on the passenger side in the very back of the bus. Two and a halfish feet wide and edge of door to wall wide.

The internet delivered a few things to me yesterday.

50amp set of plugs, adapters to go to a standard plug and a brand new $25 stereo ! !

Also purchased beginning of the walls, 1x6 tongue and groove pine.

Scored some comfy looking foam for the dinette's.

And finalized a deal on a new tractor and corn planter yesterday. T'was a spendy, but productive day.

Re: The Bamper - 1977 Chevy 54 pass

Well I got the bus completly emptied out, the ceiling painted, rear heater removed and the floor plan taped out.

The heater removal was quite easy actually. I wanted to retain front heat and defrost so a simple bit of plumbing is all it took.

You can't see it all that well but the ceiling is now whiteish. Oil based Rustolem, Gardenia is the color. The wife told me not to come home with plain ol' white and this is not white, although I can't tell the difference she is happy and that's all that matters ! ! I rolled it on and love how it turned out. It has a little of the textured look from the roller and I lost a gallon of paint on that celing somewhere ...

You can see the old color and the new nicely here.

Floor plan pretty much how it's going to be. For those of you that sleep in your dinette's, how wide are they and can you comfortably sleep two adults ??
