the big yellow beer can

well here she is, my 1967 blue bird 30 footer school bus. its a 5 speed with a 391 industrial ford motor with 67,xxx kilometres. Shes my first bus and my first conversion.
Its gonna be alot of work but i think it's well worth it. we dont plan on living in it full time but ya never know when ya live in one of the most expensive places in canada and youre self employed.....lol.

Re: the big yellow beer can

Crown buses were built with marine grade as the flooring so that is an option you could do. My bus is a 1976, and after 35 years, the flooring is still in great shape. It also makes for easy attachment to the floor of all the cabinets and stuff you'll want to put in later. Lot of work for you, but it can be done...but then skoolies are used to doing the work

Re: the big yellow beer can

well i decided to patch the rusted areas and ive just about finished the repair work to the floors. i painted the back half of the flooring and started laying down the rigged foam. i decided that even though i'm not tall at 5 foot 8 inches that i would only lay down 1/2 foam and as i got a killer deal on 7/16 inch osb, i'll be going with that over top the rigged foam with a vapor b. any more height then that would start to get a little tight. i wish i could raise the roof but as i have given myself a dec 2011 deadline i just dont have the time to do that kind of a project. we are looking at moving down from kelowna bc canada to moran kansas shortly after dec so we will be living in the old girl for a short time. if anyone has any suggestions please post them as this is my first conversion and i'm winging it...lol

Genset size depends on what you are needing to power. Heater depends on where you will be living in it at and how much insulation/heat leaking windows you have. We are keeping our original bus heat and plumbing a fluid heater inline with a hot circulating pump. As for the wiring we are taking a tip from Fred Hobe (bottom of the first page) and using 12/3 heavy duty extension cords plus the wiring we pulled and saved from the Eagle. We kept a pile of our extension cords from when David was working construction and brought them out with us. We have more than enough to wire the skoolie.
