Re: The Black Plague II (The new Jacuzzi Bus)
rustoleam commercial by the gallon gloss black i bought from home depot for about $20/gallon
Then i used rostoleam by the quart for the flames. I did spray the paint. it's important to use acetone with the rustoleam when spraying. I think the can says you can use either acetone or mineral spirits to thin,,,,,,but i've found that acetone is way way better. Just before i paint, after sanding and cleaning i go over every surface with paint thinner. After the new paint is dry, i again wash with paint thinner (mineral spirits) before i paint the flames.
I bought a middle of the road spray gun (way under $100 bucks) to shoot the paint. It's an hvlp, and i like the hvlp gun, but i've used two different ones now and i think they spray this paint way better at 100 psi than at the low pressure they are rated for. Having the paint feed the gun by gravity i think helps a lot to keep the spray consistent. Then again, phill painted his bus with an ultra cheap sprayer that had siphon feed because my fancy one was broken and his bus looks great too. So maybe i put too much emphasis on the sprayer.
one more little tip....i don't like to wash with soap and water the bus the same day that i paint. if it's dirty, you can wash it with mineral spirits and some rags that don't leave lint behind. The problem with washing with water is that it's impossible to get all the water out from under the rub rails and other hiding places. You'll think the bus is good and dry, then when you're spraying paint the air from the sprayer forces water to run out of the rub rails leaving water marks all over your nice new paint job.
