Chris.
Thanks. I am on MM and I just sent you a message there.

I am also building my rig specifically to travel around the country with my camera, taking lots of pictures as I go. Maybe we'll run into each other someday.

Hey sorry to hear about your accident, that sucks... I was looking back through your build today and saw. I know what you mean about your eyes. They are my livelihood. I was laid up with a back injury the last year and it really sucks and depression was a constant battle with me because i am always so busy with my hands building and to be stuck in a bed for 8 of those months straight it really messes with your mind. I am back working on my bus now but wouldn't be without the meds they have me on. Maybe we will have to meet up someday. Seems like we have lots in common lol. Love your build, very unique. I have to tow my jeep too.

Well, the accident was certainly not in my plans, but it has given me time to play around with some of the digital tools I can use to make my photography more accessible to as many people as possible. iMovie and Garageband are incredibly powerful creative apps that I've played with in the past, but only in the past few days have I been watching a lot of YouTube tutorials and teaching myself new techniques.

Speaking of which, I had to upload a new version of the previous video, this time to a new channel I've created just for my photography hobby/business. I made a few changes (still Not Safe For Work), including removing the vertically oriented photos and adding a new soundtrack. Do me a favor and Subscribe to this new channel and I promise I'll add new video slideshows of other subjects in the weeks to come. I'll also upload videos of different photo locations once I start traveling around the country (although those vids may be further in the future).

Very nice!

Hey I may be doing my roof lift over in your area. Metals of Marion. A buddy works there.
If/when it happens you should come have a look, and maybe a beer!

Thanks.

I looked up Metals of Marion and didn't find it. If you meant Marion Metal Works, that's only a few minutes from where I am and I could definitely come by and take a look. Let me know when that happens.

That may be it, he worked over there for years, but I only know him from working a Tucker's Machine and Steel in Leesburg with him for a good while.
He's back at Marion now and I've been meaning to get over and see their shop.
Will definitely let you know.

In photography-related news, my hosting site has added a feature that allows me to share photo galleries with only invited guests, so I have made the Nudes gallery public, but you can only view the contents if you're on "the list." Obviously, the gallery is not safe for work, but the contents are all high quality and hardly offensive unless you just don't like bare skin.

If you're interested, PM me your email address and I'll add your name to the guest list. Then you'll need to create a guest account on SmugMug to view the gallery.

I know this is kind of a pain, but SmugMug is a good company with a track record of not being douchebags—I wouldn't steer you wrong. The only reason I like this process is it keeps untold numbers of people from accessing the gallery if a single password gets sent to the wrong person.

Or, you could just go to the site without doing any of this and view my public galleries which are also very nice. The web address is in my signature.

There was a discussion on another thread about adding a side deck to a bus so I rendered a few quick ideas to see how it might work on my own bus:

Folded for the road; adds just three or four inches to the width:

Halfway deployed; the section on top folds out in front of the door with a drop-down step:

Ready for use and doesn't block use of the door:

Yes! This is precisely what I had in mind. Thanks for the renderings.

Looking at this, I would say a removable door would be needed over the rear wheel to allow access for tire changes and maintenance. Taking off the whole deck would be prohibitive.

Finally got around to modeling the ladder for the roof hatch.

This is a 72 degree climb angle and I figure that's a comfortable angle while keeping the length of the ladder to a minimum.

Detail of the hinge parts. The top step is incorporated into the fixed mounts and is slightly wider than the ladder rungs. I could have put the step lower and make it possible for the climber to get more than just the ball of his foot on the step, but that would have made the final step over the hatch opening a little too high. (It's 11" from the ceiling to the top of the opening.)

In the stowed position it fits flush against the ceiling and doesn't interfere with the front ceiling light.

And an exhaust stack on the passenger side. It wouldn't work with the proposed side deck, but it's fun to think about. ;)
