The Chicken Bus

Quote:
Lawrence had friends drive it to Guatemala, where he had a company called Transportes Esmeralda perform work valued at $5,000. It included a paint job, new front end, tables, new seats and curtains.
The company also added a partition separating the driver from the rest of the bus and made a separate room in the back of the bus with a bed.

Wow, but even still, who is going to pay 35,000 for a used school bus.

Ok, so he paid $2750 for it and put $5000 into it....how does he come up with having $20000 into it?? I don't get that part. I count, and correct me if my math skills are rusty, $7750 into it. The inside is blah with card tables and the original bus seats that aren't even recovered and the bed is a fold-out conversion van seat with nothing else in the bedroom. The paint is very well done though, even though it's not my style. I love the new truck nose they put on it and the window slat covers are awesome. For $35000 I could get an awefully nice used motorhome with a lot less miles.

Well, the Chicken Rig is on e-Bay now. It'll be interesting to see how high the bidding goes. As far as the $20,000 invested, I'm sure that 6000 mile round trip took a lot of fuel (somebody, quick, do the math!) His friends who did the driving had to eat and I'm sure they didn't make that trip for free. Anyway the bidding so far has rocketed to $1325. I guess we'll know the whole story in about 6 days and 13 hours.

I would have a hard time paying that much for a Carpenter with a 7.3L with that many miles. The 7.3L is not exactly known as a reliable engine in buses and lets hope that is not one of the Carpenter bodies with the welds coming apart. IMO the paint job and front end body work is the only thing worth anything. The inside really has not changed much from a school bus.

What truck did this hood come from? I might be interested in putting one on my new skoolie. IT really makes the bus look nice!

nevermind, i answered my own question: I didn't recognize the hood symbol...it's a newer international
I immagine that hood from a dealer is cost prohibitive, but i'll at least check into prices

Other than the tacky paint job & the hideous front clip, I like it.

by front clip do you mean the hood? I love the hood on that bus. In my opinion, it's the best part of the vehicle.
