Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER
If I remember correctly, you said you are removing the front windows here. If you are doing that, then why can't you cut along red line and bend the roof up towards the line you cut? This would leave you a small gap to rivet metal over and you could fill the sides with the sheet metal you are using to blank the windows. This would also provide you with good metal to put your small windows in and a bit more headroom inside, as well as a more gentle slope on the roof line. I think it might end up looking better with that first slope on the roof. You could probably match your rivet line at an angle to mate up with the top rivet line and keep everything looking professionally (as we have seen you are quite good at) done. What do you think?

Got any construction scaffold? Two high, 6 x6 frames with a few 10 foot decks would put you at few inches above the bus.
Liking the progress. Looking forward to more.

Are you going to be able to mount those windows on that curved surface and still get them to seal without leaks? They will bear the brunt of the driving wind and any small leaks will be worse when driving.

I'm replacing the window with a RV window. I'm going to skin over and cut out the new window hole. I do not have the tools to bend this section of the roof, because of the curve it would be very hard to bend against it. I thought about slanting the roof out to where your red line is, but I like the look of this slope better. I guess to each his own. This looks more like the old greyhound scenicruisers. A mini-sceni cruiser.

Not sure yet, when I laid the trim ring on, there is a 1/4" gap on the outside. The rest looked good. I may have to build a gasket. I had a bigger gap when I installed RV windows on the curved side of my van and had no leaks with a gasket installed.
These windows were for a flat sided trailer.

I would keep that 1st window, it really helps me when I drive and pull out onto roads

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER
Well I figured out an easy way to support the roof so I can climb out on it. I screwed a piece of steel from the new roof support to the old roof.
I made three of them and they seem to do the job.
So I took down the cardboard and started to remove the stuff that is in the way so I can make a better template.
I still have all this to remove.
I think I know a change I can make to make the front flat so the windows will fit better.

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER
It worked, Yeah!!
I got the rest of the steel that is in the way removed.
Got a new piece of cardboard and glued molding to help keep it straight.
Marked a straight line on the roof to line everything up to.
The molding keeps the cardboard nice and straight.
I used a compass to mark and cut the curve in the cardboard.
But it still does not match the roof. I angled one side and it lined up perfect, at least for a bus perfect.
I decided to score the center and cut the molding and bend the cardboard at the center.
I was able to use the old side piece as a template for the new. the new side piece is just 3/4 inch longer.
Drivers side done.
The window fit with no gaps

I looked at getting one, but the Scenicruser guys are buying them all up. They hate it when someone turn them into an RV. They bought converted Scenicruser and restoring them back to original.

Are those things that run down the length of the roof like stringers? I've never seen that before.

Are you talking these thingys?
The roof on a Thomas is three sheets of steel. Where the are riveted together, those are on top. They also add stiffness.

Re: The Journey Visvi 1999 Thomas MVP ER
Didn't get anything done on the bus yesterday. I hoping to get most of the front done this weekend. I forgot that I had a charity bike ride on Saturday. After we finished my friend Wendell took a back road to show me a little known Elk farm.
Wendell and the Elk.
Someone has been playing in the hay bails.
Rest of the herd.
