On to day two of the bedroom upgrade. The plan for today is to get the bed platform completed so I can sleep in my bed again, all though the couch was very comfortable last night.







I using the same 1 1/4 I used in the walls. I like the size of this for making everything. We are screwing to the wall and adding supports to the floor to make it stable. The far corner was the hardest to line up, can anyone say plumb-bob. the bus is parked in a place where it is level, this makes building easier, you can use a level to check everything. All pieces are within 1\8″.



We added supports where the hinges are and cross pieces that sit on 1 1/4 wood screwed length wise. The larger piece is a whole 4′ x 8′ plywood cut down the the 80″ a queen size bed is. The piece next to the wall is 11″, to allow for the hinges between them. You need space from the wall to allow for the thickness of the mattress.



You can see the cross pieces attached to the plywood, they sit on the lower 1 1/4’s. This is very strong, I was able to walk across it with no give.



There is a 4″ over hang to make it easier to walk around. The inside storage is almost two feet deep. Tomorrow we build up the floors at the end and along the right side to cover the wheel humps. With the roof raise I will be able to step up and my head just rubs the roof.

We also covered the wheel humps, I’m so tired of stepping over them.





I used the same old tried and true method I did for the walls and bed. Someday I will get around to putting down flooring, at this rate I will wait until the painting is done. This took a lot longer than I anticipated. My dad is learning how each piece of wood have to be fitted to the space. Nothing is square and leaving a small gap is good. tight fits = noise, in a house that flexes.



I added two cabinets on the engine shelf and we started to finish insulating and covering the back cap. We should finish this tomorrow and also get the front cap done. The tubing is for my sleep number bed. I like my comfort.

Lookin' good! I try and check out ALL builds daily or as often as I can for ideas, may not log on or comment. I've been planning my toy hauler for three years with cad drawings, cardboard cut outs, masking tape and s#!t gets changed daily. I to will have the folding lid storage box beds [4 singles at the rear].... two rear beds will be offset for two mattresses on each side so I can squeeeeze an ATV in between them.

Wow a finished 2x2" is 1 1/4 x 1 1/4" in your part of the woods? Still 1 1/2" here. Freakin' lumber yards are gettin' cheap!

My old man thought I was nuts buying the bus, our Thanks Giving weekend he was inside with a tape measure taking measurements.....looks like he's building the booth and couch....he's pretty damn handy with wood.

The whole scaling down of lumber standards is a royal PITA. Just makes it all that much harder to match anything previously built. The house on the farm I had in Tomball was built using 2 x 4's that had been milled on site as the first family there owned a lumber mill. They actually measure two inches by four inches and look like logs compared to modern lumber. But working on that house was a nightmare because of the difference.

At the rate things are going we'll be buying framing timbers that can double as chop sticks.

Having a sawmill is a handy thing. Next best thing is a portable mill like this.

Hey Red, they are not 2 x 2's they are pieces used in outside porch railings. they're just the size I'm looking for. I didn't want to use 2 x 4's or 2 x 2's but something bigger that a 1 x 1.

We got all the items I wanted to get done this time around finished. There will always be things to do.

The hardest issue was the fill piece where the roof curves and comes to a point because of the roof raise.



There is nothing to attach this piece to, but you don’t want to leave it open. My dad came up with the solution. We used the can of expanding spray foam. From experience we know it to be very sticky. So we sprayed it in to fill the void and pressed the wood to it and it stuck. When the foam harden, the piece is now “glued” in.



We did the same on both sides and then used cardboard to get the curve piece figured out. It all came together nicely. Since the bottom section of this piece should be close to the top section of the back piece we measured down the distance to the 1 1/4″ over the windows and cut. It fit like a glove.



We did cut insulation and fill in the gaps before we screwed in the wood. Then added the cabinets back in. Now I can’t wait to get some paint on the walls.



Before this was completed and fully insulated. It was always 2 degrees cooler in the back, I only run the front heater. I know this has made a difference because now the back is 1 degree warmer that the front. Next will be to tackle the front section.



We will start in on this, this week.
