I watched the guys at the trailer place re-deck an 18' deck over trailer for me - they used a heavy duty 3/4 inch drill with the guy pushing down with every once of body weight he could putting in 2 1/2" metal threading screws through the planks into the heavy steel frame - I was surprised to start with when I saw he was going to use self tapping screws because I didn't think they would work in that application - then I was doubly surprised to see how quickly he did the whole deck - unlike me when I was using small self tapping screws on other jobs, he didn't break any screws
