Re: Transmogrifie and Me

Was trying to decide on decor (not that I'm even close to that yet). Wanted to paint the inside of the front ceiling a stenciled rock pattern (my friend did his game room in) but I can't find the stencil anywhere. So I thought, I'll just make my own. Then I thought... fabric is my medium. What if I make a headliner type affair out of fabric sewn into a 'button tuck' sort of idea but in stone shapes... could even put a little greenery peaking about in the stones (Labyrinth comes to mind) maybe even a little critter here or there. The layers of cloth and stuffing would give it an R - factor as well perhaps. Sorry tall people.. you'll just have to sit down. It is going to be a sort of traveling garb/costume/doll shop.

Plan on sort of a a hobbit hole/cave sort of effect on the whole thing so this might work. Was going to carpet the ceiling in the bedroom with wooden strips (reverse barrel like) every couple of feet.

I know that even in regular houses I make people feel claustrophobic, but it suits me.

You have some creative ideas. It will be great to see some photos when it all comes to fruition. I have carpet on my ceiling. I also have wooden slats. The reason for the slats in half of my bus is because of not having used enough glue to keep the carpet stuck.

Accordion, I really like the wood strips--glad you used too little glue. Your home reminds me of those found in Jane Lidz's book "Rolling Homes" (1979) a favorite bedtime muse. Jack

Hey Jack --- I too have an old copy of "Rolling Homes" that has been a source of inspiration & wonder for decades now. Love it. And...it has become a highly treasured classic apparently. Check out the prices on Amazon!...

Is that cool or what?

Who would have guessed t hat a book about such an esoteric subject would become a big time cult hit?

Re: Transmogrifie and Me

Jack, I have the Rolling Homes book in paperback. I think it is from 1979. It is in good shape. The pictures are wonderful. I gotta tell you though, if I could sell it for $500, I would.

I also have two other books that are noteworthy.

One is an autographed copy of a book titled Some Turtles Have Nice Shells by Roger D. Beck. They are still available. Get one. You will love it. It is as wonderful as Jane's book.

The other book is called American Buses by Donald F. Wood. I do not know if this book is still available. It is more of a history of buses and not a book of bus conversions.

By the way, Jack, thanks for thinking enough of my bus to compare it with some in the Rolling Homes book.

Was thinking I should look up a copy but not at those prices. Perhaps a swap meet or something. I did get a copy of built in furniture but I don't think it's the one Lorna was talking about because the page number she said doesn't have what she said, same author. Still fun to look at.

I went to the restore yesterday and just went in circles realizing my plans aren't settled enough. Going back today because there were a couple of small things I did like, or could use. And the guy said 'I've worked here a year and we haven't had paneling'. *lol* Cabinets were too heavy but I did find some hollow cabinet doors that would work under the bed where I wanted storage.. taking tape measure today.

Wouldn't it be fun to somehow encorporate the look if not some actual 3D work of that stairway.. no.. guess it would make me dizzy to look at. Thought though.

Re: Transmogrifie and Me

After much researching and talking to people I think I've come to a decision on the next few steps.

1) Finish sanding floor (about 6 feet left)
2) Finish up cleaning around wheel wells (screws and rubber and rust and general left over gunk) real well
3) Mop floors and walls several times, one cycle with vinegar rest soap and water (Hopefully get to one round of this today if it gets above 40 degrees and/or figure out my propane tank and heater.)
Also today trip to Ace, trip to Restore

4) Use http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...ductId=1272246 on floor and wall panels

Then the money starts. 7 sheets of foam for the floors, 7 sheets of plywood, rosin paper and 4? sheets of foam for the walls. Figure rather than borrowing a truck I'd just take the bus and get them all at the same time. Will see.

Gas went down almost $1 a gallon which both excites and worries me.

Phone weather says it's supposed to get 48 and sunny today.

I have about 40 years of MEN... all on CD! What I do is do a search on MEN website, locate all the years/issues that have the info I'm looking for and then note that down, flip thru the CD's to find the right years and look up the issues. Unfortunately I often get sidetracked into reading something totally unrelated to what I was looking for. I like the "early years" better than the later years. Early years were more DIY, after they were bought out it became "buy this from our advertiser". They are back to a little more DIY but not like the early years. I like DIY because "one size" usually does not fit us.

Re: Transmogrifie and Me

I am looking at an all in one wet bath and can't find one or even the parts for one, so DIY might be the way I'd have to go, then you have to make sure everything is sealed properly etc. One guy made one completely out of plywood and fiberglassed the whole thing to look like one piece and it was gorgeous but I'm not that talented I don't think.

In college the intructor always said you can only eat an elephant one bite at a time. Perhaps I could try.

Aluminum and galvanized steel. The small part that's not aluminum will just have to suffer. Love it when you ask the old guy at Ace and he's like reading me the can. I read the can. I can't believe the level of ... whatever.. we have in this town. Or don't have as the case may be.

Why would you want one of those? We had one in the Class C. We loathed it. The floor is always wet because someone has taken a shower. The floor is also always dirty/muddy because some one has taken a shower and someone else had to go in the "bathroom" and tracked dirt in on their shoes. They might be doable for a short weekend but anything longer and they are PITA.

Ours was a pan that extended about 1/2 way up the wall. It was fiberglass and flimsy. I had to patch the floor since the manufacturer didn't put much support under the shower stall.
