Re: wheelchair bus for my wife
My wife is also in a wheelchair, and we are looking at basically the same bus you have. Sooo....
I wanna aska buncha questionsa abouta your bus. Pluuuuueeeeesssseeee????
First, how long is the passenger compartment from in front of the lift to the metal kid-stopping bars?
How wide is the wheelchair door?
You and yours are sooo lucky! Major case of bus-jealousy here.
Looking forward to watching your build as we design our future home away from.
Thanks.

The area for the wheelchair in front of the lift is 4x6 this puts her just behind the drivers seat next to the lift with space for me to walk through to get to the back of the chair and lock it down.
The wheelchair door is 39 inches wide, the life gate/floor is 29 inches wide.
The length of the bus from the back door to the lift is 17'5 feet. Total inside feet 25 feet. That gives me 22 feet of living space, to the drivers seat.
I plan on using some sort of Murphy bed systems for the two twin beds along the passenger side of the bus, this will allow me to us the hoyer lift to get her into and out of the bed and wheelchair. And by being able to fold the bed out of the way she will have more room to more her chair.
I am going to place the kitchen in the rear of the bus on the drivers side, from the back window to and over the wheel well. I will place the sink at the back door and window have 30 inches of counter top, under which will go the mine clothes washer/dryer, next step burner stove top, then atop the wheel well a small refrigerator with cabinets above, on the face of the wheel will go the wood stove.
As I said I will place the two murphy bed on the passenger side of the bus starting with the bed for my wife this will give lots of floor space to move her hoyer around. Then my bed followed by a small closet for clothes and at the back a compost toilet across from the sink at the back door.
I live in Valdosta Georgia, about 2 hour from you. If I can help let me know.
John

Re: wheelchair bus for my wife
Wow, sounds like you have the perfect bus. Totally cool.
I am going to get a rear door bus (when I get the scratch together) so I can put the primary bed up front on the passenger side behind the front door. My wife's back is so bad the doctor has her on mostly bed-rest for the support. Sitting up just kills her, no type or amount of padding helps, still waiting for artificial gravity...
Hopefully will be buying by November, and if I need help, I'll holler at/for you. Thanks for the offer.
Can't wait to see the floor plan and more construction pictures (You can just hear Das Mel hollering "More Pictures!!" right now, can't you?)
Good luck, and good livin.

There was a wheelchair bus conversion for sale here in FL.
The guy even had the drivers seat removed and had the bus setup to drive from a small joystick.
Pretty cool.
