Re: Spam, spam, spam...

I spent most of the day (5 hours) and removed all the spam posts. More than 20,000. GreyEagle and I have been plugging away at removing the spam for the last couple days on and off. In the last couple days there has been more than 50,000 spam posts removed. It takes forever to remove that many spam messages when we can only remove 50 posts at a time. I am afraid we are fighting a loosing battle until Steve returns and corrects the spam registration issue.

WOW! I haven't stopped by for a few, and didn't realize how bad it had gotten.

A big hat tip to all the tireless moderators! (Or would tired be more accurate?)

And thanks again to Steve, for giving us this sand box to play in.

Being "engineerical," as my sister-in-law calls me, I would probably fail the "What is the original color of a School Bus?" challenge.
I would probably answer "National School Bus Chrome," while the acceptable answer would be "yellow."

[SFX: Buzzer sounds loud and long, siren wails, trap door in floor opens, and Redbear falls into an armpit-deep pit of lukewarm clam chowda.]

Re: Spam, spam, spam...

*Whew!*

I'm glad that some people understand how much work these moderators put in so that this board can be kept clean. Unfortunately, it seems like these guys continue to find ways to infiltrate websites and spam the heck out of us. Indeed, banning Hotmail, Gmail, and Yahoo accounts does impact a lot of people, but it seems like the majority of the spam originated from these three main providers. Ugh! (I love Gmail.)

We'll try and figure out a way to make this less labor-intensive and intrusive to posters (and moderators)!

Re: Spam, spam, spam...

Done, done, done!

Alright! Membership should be cleaned up. Looks like we weeded out all the obvious spammers. There are a few people on the last page of the membership list who are questionable, but I'm going to let them ride for a little bit in case they are valid participants since they applied for membership recently. I went member by member so I am completely confident that no real member has been deleted.

If you guys notice a particular e-mail provider that you have to keep moderating, let me know and I will add it to the banned list. I'll try and keep up on this (at least Monday-Friday) so that we are proactive with potential new spam IPs or addresses... It's all smooth sailing from here!
