10x22.5 for 11x22.5 worth doing?

I have 10x22.5 tires on my fullsize bus with t444e, Im going to need some new steer tires this spring, my rear are like new, only they are winters like to put summers on but too much $$ at this time., I always see 11x22.5 for sale and on sale at some tire shops, Im sure they are a more common size, what would I gain or loose if I changed over to 11x22.5? and would it be worth it
tks

Re: 10x22.5 for 11x22.5 worth doing?

11r225 are VERY common sizes for school buses. Its the most common size for them. Not sure if the pricing where you will buy them is better on them versus a lp 22.5 (usually a 275/80/22,5) which is more common on medium trucks (18 wheelers)

A lot of it depends on what you want to do......

1) buy a cheaper tire?
2) increase the diameter to slow rpms?
3) raise the height of the bus?

Granted it is not going to make a huge difference but there will be some. If you get the make and model of the tire you currently have we can look up the technical data to show you the difference.

My bus came with 10.00x20 but the previous owner put some LP24.5 on the front (I still have the 10.00x20 on the rears) . Which to me is good cause its a common size and easier to get. Since my bus is a gasser it has pretty high rpms at highway speeds so if I change out the rears I will lower my rpms slightly by going to a taller tire.

Get us the info and I will try and do my best to help you out.

Re: 10x22.5 for 11x22.5 worth doing?

thank you for the info I got a tire chart Tire Radius Chart theres very little difference in size, but if it lowers rpm a bit that means better mpg that maybe be worth it in the long run, I mgoing to have to price out the difference in price for the 2 sizes, like I said you see the 11x22.5 all over the place

Yes sir... your right on target with what I was going to do. I would go to the 11r225 regardless. The other is getting dated and will become more expensive in time. If I can be of any help either pm or Ill keep checking on this thread.

Re: 10x22.5 for 11x22.5 worth doing?

I think I will get a new set of 11rx22.5 for steer tires, and leave the 10rx22.5 in the rear till I can afford to switch them out , they are almost new, but there snow tires and make a lot of road noise. I don't think having the 2 different sizes will make that much of difference, please correct me if im wrong.
tks

Re: 10x22.5 for 11x22.5 worth doing?

I think that would be a good idea. I would look around at tires shops to shop the price. Its a very common size although the LP225 is more common. I am more or less doing the same thing with my bus. I have lp24.5 on the front and 10x20 on the rear. I need to find some 24.5 budd rims so I can start to collect tires so I can make the switch.

Only thing I can think of is the speedometer may be a little off but one way to confirm would be a gps unit that reads the speed as you drive. But if your bus is like mine its not going to win any high speed competition any time soon.
