15k Heat pump install advice

Well I just got my Carrier 15k btu heat pump. I was hoping it would be narrow enough to sit flat on the arched roof but its not. Anybody delt with this before. I have an 89 Thomas. I only have the front 6ft of roof to use due to the "sundeck" at the rear 20'.
I might just cut the 14x14 hole clamp it down and see how it sits or I was thinking of building a small steel panel the size of the unit to weld to the roof so that it is level. I dont care do that since the first trip of the year is in a month.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

try carving an adapter out of pressure treated wood to fit the roof profile and glueing it in place with caulk or construction adheesive and then thru bolting the heatpump.

That sounds like a reasonable solution. Im not trying to say im lazy I just have way to much to finish in a month.

Hey Jon, it will sit just fine. I just put mine on the front section of my skoolie and havent had any problem with it as of yet. One thing I had to do was to cut the hold down bolts off, they were too long. Seems that the regular RV's might have had a thicker roof line.

They sell foam adaptor kits for curved roofs as many older rv's and airstreams had curved roofs. It is basically foam strips with adhesive on one side. They are placed along the sides to keep the air seal in place. They are pretty cheap and available from most rv parts dealers. I wouldn't use a stiff substance like metal or wood as a small amount of flexibility is a good thing as you drive down the road. The foam keeps the unit sealed and the hardware keeps it in place. I know where the unit is going so tonight after work I will cut the 14x14 hole and position the unit over the hole. I will then inspect the seal compression from the inside so see if it is acceptable.

Well I cut the hole saturday arround noon and by 2pm I had a/c running. I just put the unit right over the hole and clamped it down. The seal compressed enough to prevent any leaks the only other problem I have now is that the interior panel is flat and obviously the skoolie roof is not. So I need to trim the interior panel so it sits flat with the roof.

Otherwise the install went very smooth.
I purchased the unit from Family RV in florida, they were the cheapest by far at $650 shipped to my door.
